Bozeman Caps Medical Marijuana Storefronts At 20

Bozeman city commissioners have voted to cap the number of medical marijuana storefronts in the city at 20, at least through next August.

Earlier this month, the commission had provisionally voted to cap at 32 the number of medical marijuana providers, including those who deliver to patients.

But Jim Gingery with the Montana Medical Growers Association suggested the city establish separate licenses and requirements for storefronts, growers and delivery services. He said that would allow more providers in the city, but limit the number of visible storefronts.

Commissioners voted 3-2 Monday to approve the cap, which would not apply to any applications already pending when the rules take effect on Aug. 25.

The ordinance also makes it illegal to smoke medical marijuana in public and requires a 1,000-foot buffer between medical marijuana shops and schools.
