SONOITA, Ariz. - Border Patrol agents at the Sonoita station seized 51 bundles of marijuana this week, an estimated street value of more than $860,000.
The marijuana was found in an abandoned vehicle by a K-9.
Agents were following a truck driving erratically on Hwy. 82. The truck was adjusting speed inconsistently and turned off onto a dirt road and accelerated.
When the agent located the truck, it had been abandoned.
A canine was alerted to the truck and 1,076 pounds of marijuana was discovered after a closer inspection.
The truck's driver was not located.
In fiscal year 2009, the Border Patrol has seized a record amount of marijuana -- 1.2 million pounds with an estimated street value of $960 million.
