TUCSON - U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 3,600 pounds of marijuana found concealed inside a water delivery truck during a traffic stop near Nogales, authorities said.
Agents stopped the truck Wednesday on a state highway about seven miles northeast of Nogales and noticed the frame of the truck had been tampered with, a Border Patrol spokesman said.
A drug-sniffing dog was called in and detected marijuana.
Border Patrol agents took the truck to the Nogales station, where a search found a hidden compartment in the center of the cargo area.
Agents found 3,635 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value of nearly $3 million.
Authorities said the driver - a U.S. citizen whose identity was not released - was arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
