Friends of mine packed a hundred Blue Dream seeds (TigerOne Distribution) into packs of three, and I ended up with the leftover seed, #100.
How buds turn purple
After it started turning blackish/purple, I read the "How to Grow Purple Buds" guide on GrowWeedEasy (How to Grow Pink or Purple Cannabis Buds | Grow Weed Easy)
. According to the guide, purple buds typically result from one of three causes:- Stress (light, pests, rot, temperature, humidity, training, etc.)
- Nutrients (which can also be considered a form of stress)
- Genetics
My experience buds turning purple
I used the same soil, fertilizer, nutrients, and lighting for another plant growing nearby (Barney's Farm GMO Auto), and that plant didn’t show any issues.
However, during the first few weeks it did get colder outside and the plant was near a window (possibly exposed to temperatures of 15°C–17°C / 59°F - 63°F). During the seedling phase, the plant looked a bit sickly (already purple), and I had a slight concern that it might not survive. During the growth phase, there was nothing unusual, aside from slightly purple stems leading to the leaves. During mid-vegetative growth, the light cycle was reduced from 18/6 to 12/12 (until nearly the end of the grow) because it was moved to a tent with a non-autoflowering plant. In the flowering phase, all the stems and flowers turned a striking combination of nearly black and deep purple.
My guess is that it was partly due to genetics and partly due to stress, but I can’t pinpoint the exact cause. Sorry about that.
With seed #100 picked last, I feel a bit like Brock Purdy, 'Mr. Irrelevant'—the last pick (#262) in the 2022 NFL Draft, who went on to become the current starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. (Mr. Irrelevant - Wikipedia)
