Concord, N.H. – For the first time in New Hampshire, a bill to legalize recreational marijuana is being introduced in the Senate.
The bill, introduced by Sen. Jeff Woodburn, D- Dalton, might face long odds and opposition from many in law enforcement, as well as the governor.
But supporters said marijuana is not part of New Hampshire's crisis of addiction.
"There's a section on the gateway theory, and they say overall research does not support a direct causal relationship between regular marijuana use and other illicit drug use," said Matt Simon of the Marijuana Policy Project. "That's from the Drug Enforcement Administration."
A bill that would decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana is also making its way through the Legislature.
