Becca's B+, Blue Meanie, Purple Mystic From Spore Genetics & Blue Yeti LC Fun Run

:Namaste: Thank you, @CaptainLucky . The most recent that I've "researched" is the Purple Mystic and Blue Yeti. Both very nice, BY more potent. Soon I will be researching B+ & BMC!

No plans for now to grow any other varieties. I'll have to give that some thought. Maybe Wavy Caps just to try a wood-lover.

This time around I'm going to get spore prints, though, and start a spore library. I'll like to run a Purple Mystic AIO as well. I really like them and I never got a spore print of them 1st time around.
I’m a big fan of the Purple Mystic 🧙 variety also. They’re fun 🤩 watching something funny 😁 on 📺 but I get more enjoyment from a blacked out room n something fitting the occasion playing on my earphones. CL🍀 :surf::woohoo:

This is screenshot of one of my favorite sites for when I enjoy some mushies. Takes me to a magical 🧙 world. CL🍀

I tried lemontek, @CaptainLucky. I didn't notice much difference from my usual chew-em-up on an empty stomach routine, at least 3 hours post-munch, and swallow them with some green tea. 30 minutes and I start feeling effects.

It's amazing to realize it's only 34 days since inoculation of the rice bags with the B+ & BMC liquid cultures. It seems B+ is a fast strain to begin with. Throw in the liquid culture starter and high-nutrition substrate and in a little over a month the shrooms are blooming! BMC isn't far behind, maybe a couple days, maybe a week.

I thought the shrinkage of the cake was bad before, well, now after this flush, there's a half inch gap at either end and almost a quarter inch on the sides. They say to weigh the wet harvest and divide by 3 to get the quantity of water to replace.

I'm going to pour that much around the cake (not on top!) in the shoebox & cover it back up, instead of dunking, and I'll boil & cool the distilled water before so it's sterile.

I’m mainly looking to alleviate some of stomach issues that I get from eating 🍽️. But I was kind of hoping for increase in power n come up time. Anyways it’s gotta be better just drinking a shot compared with eating something that tastes like mud. lol 😂 CL🍀

B+ 1st flush is in the bag, so to speak. Got 336g wet weight, almost 12oz from the shoebox. With the trim from the bottoms of the stems, the total weight was 375g, so I added back 125mL of water to the shoebox, covered it and put it in a black bag for a week or so. Made a spore print on aluminum foil from one of the larger caps to archive.
Spread the harvest out on paper towels over a wire rack and set the rack in the oven to air dry. Ambient humidity is low so even without heat, they'll be dry enough in a few days to seal up with dessicant to get them down to cracker dry.

I use a dehydrator because it would really suck to lose any from spoilage. But it sounds like you have a system for drying that works for you. Looking 👀 forward to your report on the effects. CL🍀. :thumb: :welldone:

If it were more humid or these B+ were larger, I'd dry them in the oven at 150F. They are small and we're in a heat wave, though, so no drying worries. The Blue Yetis were so big I sliced them up so they would dry faster.

I took one large BMC cap and made 2 thick spore prints on 2 squares of foil. Placed the folded, sealed prints in a zip lock bag and labeled it with the variety name and date of spore collection. I'll never need to buy BMC spores again! Going to do the same with the BMC, and I think I'll run an AIO of the Purple Mystic so I can get spore prints of it (and more shrooms). I'll try spore printing the Blue Yeti again too, if they'll spore at all.

Back in Blue Meanie town, 1st flush in the shoebox is progressing nicely. This morning I can see primordia all over the surface in the test bag and 4 or 5 tiny baby mushrooms at the right side of the bag and slightly left of that along the edge of the media.

It's been 12 days since 1st Blue Yeti inoculation and 7 days since the heavier 2nd inoculation. Planning to smash-n-smush mix the bag Friday or Saturday, June 7 or 8. I'll get a photo before mixing it.

Before I made the spore prints yesterday, I googled the topic and found a great article at the website of the North American Mycological Association. It's been over 40 years since I last made one, so I thought I'd do a refresher.

I kept all the little bottom chunks of mycelium I cut off the stems of the BMC, threw them in a plastic tub, misted them and covered them. I think I'm going to go walkabout and "seed" the neighborhood lawns and creek. When I lived in Washington state many, many years ago, I seeded the lawn of my parents home with Liberty Caps. Months later I found a shimmery blue mycelial mat growing there. I bet they are still growing there today!

@Schnookie, same thing I do with all the weed I grow, lol! Seriously, though, after the new Blue Yeti AIO, I'll have enough to last me YEARS, so I dry 'em and freeze 'em.

Eventually I want to try growing Lions Mane, Oyster, Shitake, Reishi and Crimini for some healthy munching.

Perspective photo time! The Blue Meanie Cubes are bigger than the B+.

I couldn't resist another experiment. Instead of seeding the local area, I took the little B+ bits and mixed them into potting soil in one of my DIY SIP containers, half full. Next I dumped 400mL of distilled water in the res and covered the soil with casing mix. Lowered the SIP into a 30 gallon garbage bag and covered the top with a 3 gallon bag. The smaller bag creates a nice sealed environment. Going to wait to check it in a month or 2 and see if anything happens!

I enjoy a good experiment 🔬 and especially when it involves something that alters your perception. Fingers crossed 🤞 for success. CL🍀

We'll see, CL. The soil is used so it might be too "salty" or lack nutrition. Thinking of giving the pot some AN Bud Candy. It has several forms of sugars to feed soil microbes. If I had some earthworm castings I'd mulch that in too, but I'm low budget after paying rent.

B+ Shoebox 1st flush harvest is dried now and weighed in at 29.41g. Calculated from the wet weight of 336g, it appears that water was 91.25% of the total. They are in a zip lock bag with silica gel for final desiccation before going in the freezer.

Of note for the B+ variety: smaller physically than Purple Mystic and Blue Yeti. Its distinctive caps don't flatten out as much as the Purple Mystic, remaining conic with a prominent nipple. Looks very potent with dark blue staining (to be tested later). Cap sucks up water like a sponge and drops a lot more spores when you put drops on it (really cool to watch). 🍄

I think I've got enough for several years now, @CaptainLucky!

Another interesting thing- the B+ smelled AWEFUL while it was drying, like a stale kitchen sponge or something. I'm thinking substrate since this batch has composted manure in it. They also taste worse. May have to try a run with B+ in plain CVG substrate to compare. If it's substrate, the BMC will probably stink, too, while drying.

Also, when I harvested the B+, I collected a dozen or so tiny shrooms that were on the trim, the largest maybe an 1/8" diameter x 1/4" long, and munched down right after getting them ready to dry.

I really didn't expect to feel much because it was such a small amount, a gram wet maybe, but I got pretty high. Because of that I think a half gram starter dose of the dry shrooms sounds about right.

Here's the BMC this morning. Surprised there are no open veils yet.
