-Two plants, plant one is 1 week older
-Unknown strain - Seeds from seeded weed
-Looks to be a hybrid
-Now flowering, started on Apr 3, 2012
-Indoor closet grow, first time so no fancy stuff
-Miracle grow soil, 3 gallon pots, miracle grow nutes as well
-About 10 CFL's in use, 6x30w, 2x40w, 2x27w
-Small oscillating fan to move air around
-Temp and RH usually around ~81F and 50% at noon
-No advanced grow methods such as LST or topping used

Ok, here we go! This is my first grow, it is situated in the closet for now, gonna move the setup to the patio closet in a bit. These babies have been growing and vegging since they sprouted in mid-feb. About a week ago I started to flower them. At the moment, Plant 1 is at 30" and Plant 2 is at 20". Both are doing good and starting to show their preflowers.

Unfortunately, I believe Plant 1 is a hermie. Both plants have hairs (pistils) but the first also has the characteristic 'balls'. Since we all love nice photos, here are a couple to enjoy:

Yea, I really don't want to throw the whole plant out, especially since it's so big so I think I'll just try to keep a very close eye on it and snip all the male parts before they develop.

Gonna research a bit more, find out if that could work. Will also take before and after shots when I do.

yep, it will work, as long as you keep on top of it the whole time.

you might miss a couple and get a few seeds here and there...but, if its just the 2 plants, i wouldnt want to chop it :P

Hermies are my friends. I was paranoid about them until one of my plants hermied on me. Saved the beans and the smoke was nice. I think hermies get a bad rap.

indeed, they get a bad rep, due to the fact that a plant that hermies, wont produce the best that it can. it will allocate power into making seeds instead of bud production.

and in my brief reading of genetics, a hermie seed (one taken from the plant that hermied) wont grow with as much vigor, or have a stable genetic line.

for example. a hermied "kalashnikova" plant, that pollinates itself, will have seeds that are

50% kalashnikova, 25% ak47, and 25% white widow. (if im understanding correctly, AND assuming the original plant, was a stable kalashnikova before)

i found that kind of cool.

Beowulf those are some nice size plants you got. Will be following your journal to see how they turn out.:welldone:

Thank you everyone! I think what I might do is move the hermie outside into the porch closet to make sure it doesn't pollinate my female plant. That way I can guarantee one plant without seeds, and hopefully another one with minimal seeds as I pull the ball off.

This gives me hope!

Thanks, I am following yours as well!

Plant 1 is 35" tall, Plant 2 is 28"

Both plants seem to be going through a huge growth spurt. Plant 2 has grown 8" in the past 3 days! I wouldn't believe it but I took the measurements myself. Note that this is just pure height, not accounting for bushiness or anything.

Just moved Plant 1 outside so now he/she has room to grow and no fear of contamination. Gonna snip the balls off today, will take some pics later. I would post more pics up here, but they are coming along nice and slow.

Plant 1: 36" Plant 2: 29"

Got some more pictures to show! Both plants are set up now, Plant 2 is in the closet, Plant 1 is in the patio closet.

Knocked all the balls off of Plant 1, now it's starting to really get flowering. Many of the growth tips have hairs on them now and the top is very bushy. Gave both plants some nutes and water.

If you notice in the next 2 pictures, I believe that Plant 1 is an Indica dominant hybrid, whereas Plant 2 is Sativa dominant. Anyone care to weigh in?

Here you can see (kind of) where the balls used to be. There is a little scar on the left side of the stem.

^ Here you can see one of my problems. HEAT! These CFL's do produce a bit of heat :/ I try my best to mitigate this somewhat but I usually end up running the A/C to cool it off. Wish I had a mini-cooler in the closet haha.

Thanks for stopping by everyone! :thankyou:

i think you are going to need to help support her once those buds start comin in more.. or else the branches might get too heavy and snap!

Plant 1: 43" Plant 2: 38"

My girl is doing very well, very healthy leaves and awesome buds forming. My hermie isn't looking quite so healthy though.... could use some help diagnosing the problem.

Here is my girl:

And here is one of the worse-looking leaves. Not sure if it is over/under fertilization or something else? Can anyone help me out?

Looks like it could be a nitrogen deficiency. Have a look here and compare your plant to the pics. Cannabis Plant and Pest Problem Solver - Pictorial
