Barney's Farm - Mimosa X Orange Punch - DWC

Time to kick off my fall/winter grow now that the Summer has come to an end. Also time for me to jump into a new to me grow style, DWC!

Orginally I was going to run 2 plants this grow, but decided to just run 1 the first time around. So some of this, as I wrote it a while back, mentions 2 of the DWC set ups, which I actually have, just not using 2 :)

I went about this the way I do most things, the round about way! At first I got these (Premium Mars Hydro 5-Gallon DWC Hydroponic System Kit with 2 Buckets (8-inch each))

Then I moded the lids them to take them off of the buckets, and then I learned that all I needed to do was mod a moving tote to fit that lid and I have a pretty decent DWC set up. So that’s exactly what I did!

I got 2 of these(HDX 27 Gal. Tough Storage Tote in Black and Yellow 999-27G-HDX - The Home Depot)

Cut/melted 10” holes in the lids and popped in my Mars hydro lids/baskets and here we have this:

I also ditched the spurt ring at the top of the basket and added another air stone, actually an air bar to the reservoir. I still need to cap off the 2 unused ports on my pump.

I rinsed the shit out of the clay media that came with the mars hydro buckets and then soaked them in ph’d to 5.3/4 yesterday and will keep them soaking until first the PH doesn't rise and then once the seedling is ready to go into her basket. After 24 hours PH is at 5.57 so not too much of a rise!

Here is the rest of the grow environment

Grow Tent: 4x4x6
Lights: @ViparSpectra PS2000 x 2 daisy chained link https://www.viparspectra.com/products/pro-series-p2000 and 1 Viparspectra XS1500pro

Ventilation : AC Infinity 4” inline X 2 for extraction and intake fan.

Circulation: 4 x 6” oscillating fans

Lighting Cycles - following a DLI schedule throughout the grow.

Seedling: 20/4
Veg for 4 - 6 weeks: 20/4
Flower until dunnzo: 12/12

Water Filtration: .5 micron inline filter under the sink to pull chlorine and lower water ppm

And now for the ladies all the ladies in the house the ladies, the ladies.

MIMOSA X ORANGE PUNCH - Barney’s Farm - link Mimosa x Orange Punch Strain Seeds | BARNEYS FARM USA
Type: Feminized Photo Period
Lineage: Mimosa Evo Strain x Orange Punch Strain
Genetics: 35% sativa 65% Indica
Flower: 55-60 days
Size: 90-110 cm
Taste: Citrusy Candy Orange
Aroma: Sweet with hints of Mandarin

Feeding schedule general targets. Meters and plants will tell me what they actually need but this is my “map”.

Sprout: Water and Cal/Mag
Seedling: .5 EC / 251 PPM
Veg: .75 EC / 377 PPM - 1.3 EC / 653 PPM
Flower: 1.3 EC / 653 PPM - 1.5 EC / 753 PPM

I will also be “chasing” the VPD chart again this grow, up until flower and then it’s all about low RH! Same with DLI until it hits flower and then I just max them out. The charts don’t make sense to me for the transition from veg to flower so I ignore that part haha.

Currently have the lights all set at 5% and about 20" up from the top of the reservoir. I might go with more power and raise them to now that I think about that a little more.

Tomorrow I am dropping the seed into a rockwool cube and under a dome until the roots have made it through the cube.

Then I will put to layers of hydroton on the bottom of the basket, the rockwool on top of that and then hydroton to the top of the rock wool. over the course of the first week or so in the basket I will hopefully have the basket full of hydroton and the first nod right at the hydroton, well that's the goal at least.

I think that covers it all for now. Will be back with more pics and updates as they happen :) Thanks for tagging along and thanks a ton to those of you who helped me get this far in growing in general and with my first DWC!! I am sure it wont be as much of a shit show as it could have been!!!

I think I messed my tags up so tagging again possibly..

:woohoo: You know what THEY say...
Once you GO HYDRO, Soil no MO? Or something like that! 👍
Haha we will see!!

Small update.

I installed the .05 micron filter for my cold water supply in the basement and NO change in PPM. Still comes in at 313 so that’s a no go for straight tap water for this grow. Bummer to say the least.

So with that said, my plan is to do 50/50 tap and RO water. It’s not that big of a deal as it’s only $6 in RO water and that should leave me plenty of room.

Now to read up on what just water ppm should be LOL I swear I’ve read and reread over and over again about all of this and I’m still on the struggle bus!! One day I will get it I am sure!

EDIT:

I’m just going to go with RO. I have enough 5 gallon water jugs to fill my res and then I don’t have to worry about it. Will just refill them once I fill my res so that I have a full res change on hand at all times :)

This will get me as close to 0ppm as I’m going to worry about :)

Ok well seed has cracked and is now in her rockwool cube under a water bottle dome :)

Hydroton will likely need a new ph bath tomorrow as it has risen to 5.78 from the 5.53 it started at. I actually expected it to rise faster than that. So hopefully only 1 more ph bath for them and it will be good.

Hello gentlemen

Do you have room for a lady? I’ve been told I’m classy as fuck!
I need some class up in here !! Glad to have you along Tra!
This is going to be epic! I'll be hanging around to enjoy this massive plant once she takes off.
Going to be epic as in an epic shit show LOL. In not setting my hopes high for this grow. It’s all about learning, and maybe a little smoke at the end. Speaking of epic, your scrog is looking pretty damn epic!

Always room Bill! Happy to have you!

Swimming with green legged women! Sounds wicked fun! :circle-of-love:
Unless it’s gangrene legged women.

As my ole nan used to say “it’s all fun and games till her green legs fall off”

Took a look in the rock wool today and the tap root is out and making its way down but no signs of green or the seed cracking anymore than it was when I dropped it in there. To be expected at only 24 hours in the rockwool.

It’s been a little tough to keep the rock wool moist, even with the dome on it. I have turned off all fans that would move air across that area of the tent and will monitor it. I think it’s fine so long as I check it before bed, before work and as soon as I get home.

Swimming for sure, hopefully no green in the water :)
Unless it’s gangrene legged women.

Seriously, the toilet book of things Nan uses to say. 1 quote per page. Kind of like Deep Thoughts with Jack Handy
Hey Lady! Glad to see you!!
