GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - Connor Bardallis, the roommate of a Grand Valley State University student shot by a sheriff's deputy during a marijuana bust, was sentenced Monday afternoon on a pot charge.
Bardallis admitted in November to the delivery and manufacture of marijuana. He was put on 18 months probation, fined $628 and had his driver's license suspended for six months.
Bardallis sold 3 grams (one-tenth of an ounce) of marijuana for $50 to an undercover officer in February. His roommate, 21-year-old Derek Copp, sold 3.3 grams of marijuana (about one-eighth of an ounce) for $60 to an undercover officer.
Drug officers then raided the Campus View apartment on March 11.
During that raid, Officer Ryan Huizenga shot and seriously wounded Derek Copp.
Copp was at the door, pulling open the curtain, when the shot was fired. He was hit in the chest and seriously injured.
Copp pleaded guilty to the same charges against Bardallis, and was sentenced in August -- 18 months probation, 40 hours of community service and $300 in fines. The judge also gave Copp permission to leave the state. The judge allowed the record to be expunged if Copp completes probation and stays out of trouble.
Huizenga was sentenced to six months probation, $400 in fine and 80 hours of community service after pleading guilty to reckless discharge of a weapon, a misdemeanor. He returned to duty after a stint on paid administrative leave.
