The Arcata City Council will meet Wednesday to possibly extend the city's temporary hold on medical marijuana dispensaries for another year.

The council placed a moratorium on new dispensaries last year in order to allow time to develop medical marijuana dispensary guidelines that would be added to the city's land use codes. The moratorium is set to expire automatically on May 6, unless the city extends it.

According to staff reports, extending the temporary hold will allow the city more time to finalize its codes. If the city approves of the extension, the moratorium will be in place until 2010.

In other matters, the council will hold a public hearing to receive input regarding unmet transit needs and for the application of stimulus funds to support future capital and operational assistance projects. The public hearing is a part of the application process for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to obtain an estimated $220,000.

The council will also consider awarding a bid for concrete and asphalt improvements. The contract may be up to $350,000.
