How was your experience with chicken manure?

How would you rate chicken manure compared to other fertilizers like guano and fish?

Can I add dried chicken manure straight to my soil?

Chicken manure, even aged, is some hot stuff!!! If you talking about using raw, fresh out of the chicken and just dried manure, be very, very, carefull, I would caution against it. If you use aged manure out of a bag, go slow, you can fry a plant in nothing flat if you use too much. Very high in N. Never used it for growing weed, but I have used it in the garden, that's how I learned how fast it can fry a plant! In the right ratios it can be effective.

Thanks for the heads up. I might just try it on a couple of plants first, don't want to fry all my plants.

Let it compost an entire year.

that. at least.

bird shit of all kinds is the most caustic of all shit. it eats paint off cars.
edit : should explain, birds don't piss .. so their shit is loaded with uric acid.

"Birds don't pee"... noted. Got confused. Googled things. Became informed. Now woke and an advocate. Made a t shirt for my wife and kids to wear at the rally. Generational wealth.

Kind of boring but there was a day or two of excitement.;) I have a small bag of Chicken Manure, a 5-3-2 product, from a well known long time organic fertilizer producing company, Espoma was the name. The stuff is around here somewhere, maybe in the garage or back room. I top-dressed with a couple of teaspoons on the soil in a couple of pots. After a couple of watering sessions I notice that the manure was covered with white fungus, the start of a mycelium network of fungus. Life was good and two days later, after one more watering, I turned the top inch or two of soil over and mixed my new micro-organisms into the soil.

About the same. The Chicken stuff is hot, up there with Blood Meal. But we should remember that it is often 'hot' because the Nitrogen is very water soluble and not because of the percentage (usually Nitrogen) that is in the product. I do not use it all that often, preferring the bird or bat guano and fish products. I probably prefer those because I have been using those sources for decades and have become used to them. I picked up a bottle of a 'natural' liquid fertilizer called MorBloom 0-10-10 from the Alaska Fish Company. One of the primary sources of the nutrients is fish emulsion. It should not be 'hot' since it is not a significant source of Nitrogen. Going to try it out on some flowers this summer, and maybe a tomato plant or two.

Of course.:) Mix it into the soil ahead of time, maybe a week or two before planting.

Or top dress in a circle around the plant just at or a little ways past the drip line. This would encourage root growth as far as I figure.

Chicken manure needs to be composted, you cant use it straight or fresh.

For health of it too yeah pathogens all around on that - put it in your vermi-compost bin a little at a time. Your vermi-compost will be best ever. Way too hot too as mentioned straight.
Wash your hands after touching that stuff.
