A couple of Crime Stoppers tips led Quad-City Metropolitan Enforcement Group, or MEG, agents to two alleged marijuana sales operations from which more than 40 pounds of high-grade cannabis was seized last week, MEG director Chris Endress said.
The combined value of the two seizures could be more than $200,000, Endress said. High-grade marijuana sells for between $2,500 and $5,000 per pound, he said.
The first raid took place Tuesday at the home of Mark Rice, 53, and Sandy Rice, 45, 2422 Washington Lane, Davenport, Endress said.
Agents seized 22 pounds of marijuana found in a deep-freeze along with almost $57,000 in cash, he added.
Mark and Sandy Rice both are charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and failure to affix tax stamp. Each of the charges is a Class D felony under Iowa law that carries a prison sentence of up to five years upon conviction.
Each of the suspects was released from the Scott County Jail after posting $5,000 bond.
On Friday, MEG agents raided the home of Xhevahir Ajdini, 23, at his home, 18124 River Road, Cordova, Ill., Endress said.
Agents seized more than 18 pounds of marijuana that was packaged and ready for sale, Endress said. Ajdini faces felony drug charges, he added.
Both investigations were initiated after anonymous tips were received by Crime Stoppers, Endress said. The Moline Police Department's narcotics unit and the FBI aided in the investigations.
