Hello everyone,
I recently finished growing some sorbet stash clones using the traditional MH/HPS setup. The grow kind of got away from me in terms of stretching and light bleaching/burning my leading colas. I'm hoping that my recent purchase of a Gavita Pro 1700 helps prevent stretching and improves yield through a combination of better spectrum and no hotspots. I yielded a little over 14 ounces last grow using the exact same clones. I'm curious how things will go this round. I'm also going to harvest on the same day of flower again too (day 58).
Switching over to led has given me another foot of vertical space compared to my old setup. I should be able to comfortably grow 3-4 foot tall plants without getting into the danger zone.
I'm still working out how to cool the tent most efficiently now that I no longer have a vented hood. So far I have a small fan blowing on the heatsinks, a small fan at the bottom of the tent circulating air, a 420 cfm intake fan bringing in fresh air, and a 420 cfm fan exhausting through a carbon filter. Temps in the tent are hovering around 29.5 degrees celcius right now. I might have to hook up a second small fan blowing on the other side of the grow light to help dissipate heat. We'll see.
I plan on leaving the fixture at the top of the tent the entire grow and letting the plants grow into the space. I'd ideally like about 18 inches between the light and top of the canopy, which would give me about 1000 ppfd throughout the entire 4x4 space. The baby clones are about close to 5 feet away right now, and should be getting about 500 ppfd at that height. This light is bright!
I'm starting the clones in some amended coco. I use Mr. Canuck's method to start (Gaia Green organic dry amendments). I let the plants use up the nutrients in the medium, then I start adding synthetic nutes at about 1/2 the recommended strength for the remainder of the grow. I do this because I'm using autopots, and topdressing in them just doesn't work. I did this with the first round of clones and the plants stayed healthy. I might bump up the PPM's this time and see if the plants can take it.
I'm excited to flower these girls under the new light and compare results to round 1.
Round 2 - Fight!
