Aero Goes LED: Sorbet Stash Clones In Autopots Round 2

Hello everyone,

I recently finished growing some sorbet stash clones using the traditional MH/HPS setup. The grow kind of got away from me in terms of stretching and light bleaching/burning my leading colas. I'm hoping that my recent purchase of a Gavita Pro 1700 helps prevent stretching and improves yield through a combination of better spectrum and no hotspots. I yielded a little over 14 ounces last grow using the exact same clones. I'm curious how things will go this round. I'm also going to harvest on the same day of flower again too (day 58).

Switching over to led has given me another foot of vertical space compared to my old setup. I should be able to comfortably grow 3-4 foot tall plants without getting into the danger zone.

I'm still working out how to cool the tent most efficiently now that I no longer have a vented hood. So far I have a small fan blowing on the heatsinks, a small fan at the bottom of the tent circulating air, a 420 cfm intake fan bringing in fresh air, and a 420 cfm fan exhausting through a carbon filter. Temps in the tent are hovering around 29.5 degrees celcius right now. I might have to hook up a second small fan blowing on the other side of the grow light to help dissipate heat. We'll see.

I plan on leaving the fixture at the top of the tent the entire grow and letting the plants grow into the space. I'd ideally like about 18 inches between the light and top of the canopy, which would give me about 1000 ppfd throughout the entire 4x4 space. The baby clones are about close to 5 feet away right now, and should be getting about 500 ppfd at that height. This light is bright!

I'm starting the clones in some amended coco. I use Mr. Canuck's method to start (Gaia Green organic dry amendments). I let the plants use up the nutrients in the medium, then I start adding synthetic nutes at about 1/2 the recommended strength for the remainder of the grow. I do this because I'm using autopots, and topdressing in them just doesn't work. I did this with the first round of clones and the plants stayed healthy. I might bump up the PPM's this time and see if the plants can take it.

I'm excited to flower these girls under the new light and compare results to round 1.

Round 2 - Fight!

Things are slowly moving along. I've been hand watering until the plants are able to get established in the autopots. Should be about a week or so until I can start. I was able to sort out the temperature issues by leaving the door open in the room.

I'm really looking forward to flowering with this light. I'm going to start once the girls are 10 inches tall.

It's been 9 days since I up potted my rooted clones. I may end up topping the two taller plants to help the little guys catch up. I should be flipping over to flower pretty quickly, as the previous clones tripled in height after moving over to flower last time.

I'm also going to set up the autopots soon, the smaller clones might need a few more days of handwatering to get acclimated. So far so good with the light being left at the top of the tent.

I set up the autopots and a scrog net today. Figured I might as well get some work done while I have a day off. I also topped the 2 taller clones to let the little guys catch up.

I'll be flipping to flower once I have half of the net full. I'm thinking the stretch should take care of the rest.

I've started tucking, training, and trimming. It's pretty apparent that there is tighter node spacing this round compared to using the MH last time. The spectrum of this light has to be a big reason. I'm pumped! Especially considering the fact that I have the light a little over 4 feet away. That's a win for LED in my books. At this rate, I should be flipping over to flowering within a week.

In other news, I'm about to start planting a veggie garden for the first time. My little 2x2 tent is going to be used for starting seeds and hopefully keeping them short and stocky until they are ready to move to 1 gallon pots and over to the windowsill. We have a solid 6-7 weeks to go until I'd consider moving them outside. Our weather is super unpredictable and a snowstorm in late May is totally possible.

I'd appreciate any tips from my fellow gardeners who start their veggies inside. Cheers!

Girls are looking tight! Looking forward to watching them grow.

I love my veggie gardening. 6-7 weeks is a perfect time to get veggie seeds started indoors. From the seed packets in the pic I'd probably hold off on sowing the sugar snaps a couple of weeks and the carrots I usually sow directly in the garden. We don't get snow here though...

I have a reasonable collection of heirloom and hobby bred tomato and pepper seeds. I'd be happy to send you some after we are out of lock down. PM me if you are interested.

No worries. Whenever you’re ready. It’ll be too late for this season now anyway. I’m assuming you are in the northern hemisphere.

Thanks for the offer but I have more veggie seeds than I will ever need (although the pale green kohlrabi looks interesting lol)

I’ve started giving away a lot of seeds to people on local Facebook groups as people have now started to panic buy seeds here in Aus...

I've flipped over to flower. Today marks day 2. I'm going to be trimming off everything that I don't think will turn into a big colas in about a week. The plants look healthy, and growth has been pretty speedy.

I'm running AN's ph perfect trio at 1/2 strength. I started adding rhinoskin (potassium silicate) this week, and plan on using it weeks 1-5. I'll also be using Big Bud weeks 2-4. Also adding cal/mag at 1/2 strength. The autopots are a continuous feed system and I'm wary of giving them too much.

Day 5 of flower and I'm running out of open squares to tuck in to. I'm not too worried this time as I have a solid 3.5 feet of vertical space before I enter the danger zone. I shouldn't lose any buds to light burn and I think my yield will be quite a bit better too. This light rocks.

The clones were overdue for a good haircut. I took a grocery bag worth of growth below the canopy away. There are a few more growth tips that might get removed yet. I plan on giving one more haircut at the end of week 2.
