Supporters of medical marijuana were out in numbers Saturday, marching for the fight to keep medicinal pot legal.
Saturday afternoon at Beach Park in central Bakersfield, dozens from the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, also known as NORML, gathered to hold signs and march for medicinal marijuana.
Some activists say it's a healthier and better way to use drugs for ailments and illnesses.
Those marching say they are angry with the sheriff for using tax money to uphold federal law above state and local laws.
Activist Shelley King says, "Everyone needs safe access for their medical marijuana. We need access to our medicine when we need it."
According to the Compassionate Use Act of 1996 and Senate Bill 420, patients are allowed access to medical marijuana.
Earlier this week, Sheriff Donny Youngblood announced that he will no longer be issuing licenses for medicinal pot shops in the county.
