A little heating help

Ok so as I have said I'm pretty new to the indoor scene. Last night was my test run for my tent, The only space I have to grow is in my uninsulated garage. I'm in the Los Angeles area and at night it's dipping down to the mid 40s. Inside my tent it dipped down to 61.5°. My tent is a 2'×2'×4', so it's not a big area to heat. I have an exhaust system installed. My question is is there a small heater I can run, or is there any other heating suggestions.

What's daytime temps and all that? 61 not that low but might depend on your range for the whole day or highest temp for day. Your own house or not? I started growing in my carport shed, ended up insulating the walls inside there so I could try and control heat better, bit colder up here in middle OR and it was a fight to grow all year out there even insulated. As sometimes summers would get too warm in there so I had the other problem too if growing all year. So if insulating an option may be worth it in the long run if you continue with the hobby.

EDIT: also maybe build a small wooden platform for tent to be on instead of sitting on the cold concrete floor might help quite a bit also.

I can't recommend a heater for such a small space but I'm curious..

How big is the garage and would it be feasible to heat that ?

Oil filled electric are about the safest and run about $100....

Lots of smaller options, look on Amazon first to get an idea.

And you will need an in tent fan, fireproof base and a smoke alarm !

Cheers

it's often better to build a cabinet and ditch the tent under those conditions. a hard sided cabinet can be insulated and climate controlled in an open area like a garage a lot easier than getting a tent to work.

those temp swings are gonna keep you messed up the entire grow.

Hi,xx- and welcome to 420!
I also grow in an uninsulated garage on the central coast of Cali, in a 2x2x48" cardboard box-
I turn the exhaust down at night, and use a 24"x24" seedling mat for heat- it doesn't do a whole lot, but it keeps the box apx 10 degrees warmer than the ambient- so, 50 in the garage, 60 in the box-
which is kinda cool, but not tooo bad...
The best part of the seedling mat, is that it also keeps the soil/pot at a constant 77f- plants can handle cooler temps better if the soil is somewhat warm, at least that's what I've found with my plants...so the constant 77 degrees works out real well- I grow in a SIP now, but when I grew in fabric pots, the warm soil had the same effect...
My box is also sitting on a 1"x24"x24" styrofoam sheet to keep it off the cold concrete...

An alternative is to just run your light at night- then it'd stay nice n toasty in there...

That's exactly what I do, on at 6pm off at 10 am... last night was good temp at 5:30 this morning was 71.6°.... I like that alot better than 61°. How many plants do you grow in your box at 1 time?

Often, a small tent like that is a bit harder to maintain the temperature than many of us think at first. The larger the volume of air the longer it will take to cool off and the longer it will take to warm back up. That is why many growers end up working with the temperatures in a room and letting the room temperature maintain the temperatures in their tent.

You might notice that the temperatures will be different than what they they are now once a pot of soil is in the tent. The soil will act as a heat sink. It could take a couple of hours to get up to the air temperature in the tent and then take hours to cool off.

Here's the set up, for the most part. One crappy plant and a tomato plant.

those dual switch lights work best when running everything full up. just use light height to vary the intensity.
there are better light choices for that space. it'll do for now, everyone starts somewhere.
when you want to upgrade have a look at some of the sponsors offerings and make use of the board discounts. there's a ton of guys here to help guide you.

Just one- I tried 2 in there when I first started growing in the box, but with 2, neither one gets to
do it's best, so I've gone with just one for the last 4 years or so..
I've grown a 10oz. GSC in there, so you can get plenty of weed from one
plant, with a bit of training...👍

What a beautiful photo!!!

Thanks so much, Lady C.!
I'm still smokin' on that one...👍
Every so often, I get a colorful one in there- This is a SuperSilver Haze from '21:

Thanks again, Lady C.!💚
The SSH won plant of the Year in '21, and the GSC got Photo of the year in '22.. I have no idea why one will occasionally get colorful- although, when they did that, they were being fed MegaCrop-

I Haven't had a colorful one since I switched to Grow Dots🤔

Mine usually got colourful toward the end when I cut back on nutrients & cold temperatures
