PHOENIX -- The Arizona Department of Public Safety said Highway Patrol officers conducting traffic stops seized more than 6,500 pounds of marijuana in a one-month period.
Most of those seizures happened after DPS or Border Patrol K-9s were used to search vehicles, DPS officials said.
The largest haul came on May 9 when officers found more than 2,800 pounds of pot on a commercial vehicle in southern Arizona, officials said.
The latest round of seizures happened over the Memorial Day weekend.
One of the stops, on westbound Interstate 10, turned up more than 300 pounds of pot in the rear storage compartment of a Chevrolet Avalanche, according to DPS.
Officials said another stop in southern Arizona netted more than 500 pounds of marijuana.
