Hello everyone and welcome to our October Members Update.

This monthly post is to keep you informed about what's been going on behind the scenes at 420 Magazine during the last few weeks, highlighting any changes to the website which may effect you and spotlighting new articles of interest, new sponsors and our monthly contest winners.

A special "Welcome!" to all the new members who have joined over the last month - Welcome New Members – Please Read Before Posting and do Introduce Yourself. Many thanks also to all those who warmly welcome new members.

We always say that we wouldn't be here without our Sponsors, however it's equally true that 420 Magazine wouldn't be such a great mission without you, our members. We are always grateful for your presence, contributions, positive energy and spirit of helping others.

Software News & Updates
1. Persistent Alerts

In a constant effort to bring you the latest and greatest, we made some changes to our Persistent Alerts feature which has caused some issues that we have finally ironed out. The changes forced the option to be enabled in your account by default.

If you wish to stop receiving multiple alerts for new replies from the same thread before you read it, please go to
Preferences > Uncheck "Persistent Alerts Enabled" > Save

Please note that when you remove Persistent Alerts, you won't receive any more alerts / email alerts when someone replies to the thread you are subscribed to, before you visit the thread again. This means there could be a hundred new replies, however you won't know unless you actively read each new post.

2. Links in Signatures
As part of our huge SEO drive, and to keep this massive website clean and tidy, we have manually updated and fixed about ten thousand signatures that had old or broken links. So if you're an old timer here or never figured out how to make your links work, we fixed them all.

3. Completed and Abandoned Grow Journals
The old forum threads separating completed or abandoned Grow Journals from those in progress have been removed. Absolutely nothing though has been lost or removed. All Grow Journals, past and present, can now be viewed in Grow Journals.

Now, when they have been checked, we tag them either Completed or Abandoned. No more multiple forums, all just in one. Viewing all journals is default, however you can filter your search to only completed or abandoned if desired by simply using the Filter button (top right) and selecting one or the other. Or if you see a Completed or Abandoned tag attached to a thread, click on that and you'll be taken to the filtered list.

There's a tutorial with images here - How To See A List Of ONLY Completed / Abandoned Grow Journals

4. Website Upgrades
We updated some backend server software, so you should see some improvements in speed when performing actions, loading pages. As always, please let us know if you discover any issues from the upgrades at support@420magazine.com or in Website Help & Feedback.

420 Magazine SEO: Search Engine Optimization Project
We showed this last month, however we are repeating it here as a reminder to new readers.

We work hard to keep our community prominent in search engines, so that new friends can find us, learn, enjoy and share. We have a dedicated team in the back working to further improve our SEO - and there is something that all members can do to help.

If members could please remember to descriptively label photos before posting and be explicit when describing content in thread tiles, that really will boost our SEO.

1. Threads
Titles such as "WTF is this?" or "Bud Porn" negatively affect our rankings, whereas "My plant has gone crazy - is this foxtail?" or "Black Domina 72 Days Into Flower - Huge Colas" are descriptive and will positively help our mission.

2. Photos
Photos should describe their content so please re-name something like "image DSC_3928174rtt.jpg" to "jack-herer-hempy-bucket.jpg" for example, before posting.

This applies to images either uploaded to our Gallery, or attachments to posts.

This will help users to find your images and better understand your post.

3. Tags
These are important, so please be sure to add them when you start a new thread by using the Add Tags option .

Use words you expect to use in your thread or grow, e.g. soil, organic, outdoor, coco, LED, organic, hydro, scrog etc.

We understand this is extra work and not always possible, but please try to help us to remain the biggest and best cannabis community on the internet.

4. The International Forum
As part of our continuing project to improve 420 Magazine's SEO, we have removed the International forum, at least temporarily, from the Forums page. It is only accessible by link now.

So whichever US State you're in, or whatever country you call home, if you need specific, local, cannabis-related information or just want to hang out with your neighbours, this is where you'll find them - 420 International

Thank You from the 420 Magazine SEO Team.

More Emojis!
We've added emoji support to the forums, which allows our members to use their iPhone & Android emojis in forum threads. We ask that you please use them tastefully and not get too crazy in signatures.

On 420 Magazine you can use them through your desktop/phone/tablet emoji overlay. In your message box, you should have an emoji icon in your mobile keyboard. On desktop, you right-click and select Emoji.

The forum also lists them in the Smiley menu. Click it and scroll to the bottom to find the long list of emojis to use.

We have also fixed a lot of emoji codes that were in the previous software, so those old emojis are now working again.

Software Update: The "Ignore" Feature
We removed a script that was designed to allow members to "ignore" each other. The script did not allow us to stop members from ignoring admins/mods, so it became an issue for us being able to moderate. Meanwhile, the forum software developer has evolved and actually added the feature into the software, without the use of an added script. You can see the "Ignore" button on anyone's profile, except for staff.

You can find detailed information on how you use it in our Members Support forum, here - How To Ignore A Member

420 Magazine Store
It's up and running here - 420 Magazine Store. Currently in stock, we have some very cool 420 Magazine mugs, stickers and those sought-after 420 Magazine T Shirts. It's all tip-top quality. No cheapo, foreign manufactured goods here. Unfortunately, PayPal continue being a problem in not allowing payments. Despite medical cannabis being legal in 38 Sates, recreational use legal in 18 States and a further 13 States having decriminalized cannabis use, PayPal have not yet caught up. We've all still got much work to do. Help support our Mission and pick up some awesome 420 goodies.

Your Experiences At 420 Magazine
We've got a new thread for our members to share how much they have learned, gained, grown and/or experienced from their membership at 420 Magazine. We hope that patients, activists, growers, fans of the flower, friends of 420 Magazine, or even reformed LEO will post their experiences here for others to learn from and celebrate.

Please Tell Us About Your Experiences At 420 Magazine

Thanks for the 411 Teddy, very informative. I still have yet to post proper photos and labels. I am a self-proclaimed techno-idiot!
I wouldn't mind buying a cofee mug, yet would also love to but some jars at the same time. Ergo; please add jars to your inventory.:Namaste:
Thanks for all the wonderfull work you people have been doing. I was a plant and grow haphazard kinda guy. @420magazine has given me a hobby that I can be passionate about.:thanks:

Cheers!

I used PayPal for about 15 years, then they suddenly cancelled my account and wouldn't tell me why. At the time, I was doing fundraising for a legal cannabis project. I switched to another account I had, and they did it again for other lame reasons. Paypal sucks. I highly recommend Squareup.com.
