Looking for running tempuratures of 400w mh and 400w HPS?
Intrested in which one runs warmer and if i can make this size of light work in my space. Closet is 5 ' tall, 5' wide . Is this going to be possible or will i need to be running a venting fan the enitre time the lights on? Thanks in advance

In all liklihood you will need to vent. Preferrably by getting a sealed, air-cooled light.

I checked the top of a non-vented 400 watt MH for a guy some years back and the surface temperature on top of the fixture was 106.0F.

I would think that a HPS would be cooler than a MH since the HPS is more effecient but that is just a guess.

My veg room dimensions are pretty much the same. I have a 400 watt MH light in there and yes I have to vent it. I would advise you to get an aircooled light hood with a 4" flange. Hook up 4" flex duct to both sides. One side will hook up to the fan which will pull air through your light and blow it out of the room. The other flex duct you should run it outside the room. This way your fan will suck clean-air from outside your room, through your light, then vent back out into the same room. This way you wont be sucking stinky air from inside your growroom and blowing it all over your house.

250 watts won't get as hot as 400 watts.
