Three teenagers were arrested after police found them harvesting marijuana plants in a garden in the woods off the Saw Mill River Parkway, police said.

Westchester Police said an officer saw a car on the side of the road near the Cross County Expressway and Saw Mill River Parkway interchange Wednesday evening. He said he saw a person running into the woods.

Police said they followed and found a garden about 15 feet by 40 feet with 6-foot-tall marijuana plants. They said they cut down the plants Thursday. They also allegedly found gardening tools and plastic bags at the site.

Police arrested 19-year-olds Duane Alvarez and Ivan Gutierrez and 16-year-old Juan Mejia, all of New Rochelle. They are charged with attempted possession of marijuana and conspiracy.

Police said they are investigating whether the trio sold the marijuana.

All three teens are free without bail pending an Oct. 17 appearance in Yonkers City Court.
