Thanks for responding to my question. I have my plants in 5.5 inch net pots. They are intended for orchids and pretty sturdy.
My other question is do I actually need a medium at all. The only reason I am even using the net pot is for support of the fully realized plant. I assume that the cloning collar can support a smaller to medium sized plant. However, once the weight increases I feel as though it will just slip down into the root chamber. I don't see any need for a medium as the roots will be coming out of most, if not all in the net pots.
Plus I will use my old 4x4 inch squares dog fencing as support. Instead of the nylon netting that I see in photos shared of people's flowering plants. The netting is probably more convenient, but I have a couple of hundred feet of metal fencing that I no longer use. So no need to buy something that I already have.
I intend to use 3 inch net pot collars and cut off every but the rim. Then I have a plastic circle the size of the 5.5 inch net pot. With the 3 inch net pot in the middle of it.
Do you believe that 3 inches is a big enough diameter for the realized plant? And a 5.5 inch net pot strong enough to hold the plants weight?
