JACKSON, Miss. -- Three people have been jailed on drug charges after state troopers found 335 pounds of marijuana in their truck during a traffic stop on Interstate 20 near Bolton.
Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Captain Jim Ruble said a tip led to the arrests. He said the marijuana was to be sold in Jackson.
Aric Brooks, 31, of Jackson; Willie Alexander, 46, of Los Angeles; and Orinthia May, 27, address unknown, each were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms, or more than 11 pounds. A conviction carries life in prison and a maximum fine of $1 million.
The three are being held in the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond pending an initial court appearance.
They are expected to make their initial court appearance today. Jackson Police Chief Robert Moore says he's elated to hear the marijuana was stopped before hitting the city.
