Pros and cons please. We are currently doing 24/7. But some say it is better to give the rest period. Thanks

24/7 vs. 18/6

You get fastest growth under full-time light (24/0).
In the spring, fall & winter I use 24/0 light and my rooted clones go from 3" tall to 15" tall in 3 weeks. In the summer I use 18/6 (because of the heat) and it takes 4 weeks to get to the same height.

ive heard that the 24/7 lights grow faster aswell. but my plants are just ending week one, and they seem to be growing nice and fast im using the 18/6 method just because i belaive in a rest period, ive seen them grow over night.

I'm not sure of the stress levels of 24-7... But a buddy of mine "always" uses 24-7 and produce's nothing but tasty, stinky, crystally fire! (Every 6 - 8 weeks) Known throughout NorCal! (Purple Kush, White Widow & Joey to name a few)
I'm definitely going with the 24-7 cycle on my first grow, which will be when we return from vacation (Eastern Caribbean yippy!). Speaking of which, does anyone one have an idea of the quality of the medicine in St. Thomas and/or St. Maarten? Love to get my hands on some bomb ass seeds and see what the girls could do...? Comments welcomed...

I've used both light cycles and like both. They do seem to grow a lot faster with 24/0, but I don't know, I like the plant to have SOME rest. You could start out with 24/0 and then switch to 18/6 after a week or so. I did that on my current Purple #1 grow.
In the 2006 Indoor/Outdoor Bible, Jorge did mention something about shorter light photo periods in relation to dark during the veg stage seemed to contribute to female sexing just like more blue spectrum and cooler temps. Take what you want from it.
But I've also seen him recommending 24/0 too though, but maybe thats used for clones.
If you don't believe that the light cycle can affect sex outcome, then stay 24. Cause even though I believe the dark cycle is natural and necessary, it can't be denied that 24/0 grows em fast.

the only thing I could think of making the 24/7 cycle good is the photosythisis(sp?) but the rest being good for the plant to take some time for itself. we all like some rest its like working 24/7.
