1st Grow Time (Preparation)

I've done the research I just need advice from those who have experience.
Here a shopping list so far, add to it as you see fit for a newbie:

- 400 Watt HPS + MH Digital Grow Light System - $164.95
- Maxicrop's Liquid Seaweed — $10

Sub total: $417.32

Thought of Nothern Lights or Master Kush to grow as a test.

1st off bummer that you didn't get more input sooner, but you have a good list going - as previously mentioned you'll want the PH Meter, PPM meter, calibration fluids, etc.

Make sure you have a water plan, too. (Using Distilled, RO, tap water, etc.) If using tap water, you'll want to leave it out overnight before using it in your set-up as most city water has chlorine and chemicals that will dissipate out overnight, but aren't always good for the ladies.

As far as strains, both Master Kush and Northern Lights are steady, stable (relatively) easy strains to grow, with great yields etc. Can't go wrong there either.
