Hello all- First off, what an awesome group of individuals. I love to see the amount of help and support and engagement that comes from this site. Thank you all for taking the time to post from your experience and education in order to help out newcomers to this amazing hobby.
I recently received 20 seeds as a gift. I'm told they are Grape Ape, which I'm pretty excited about as I much prefer Indica dominant strains. After some pretty intense research, I built the following set up to get started with 2 plants on my first indoor grow:
3x3 @Mars Hydro tent
@Mars Hydro TSW 2000 light
AC Infinity Cloudlike T6 inline exhaust w/ filter
FF Happy Frog Soil, cut with 25% pearlite
FF Dirty Dozen Nutes + Cal/Mag
1gal and 5gal Vivo Sun cloth grow bags
Vivosun pH and TDS pen
Govee wifi hygrometer/thermometer
Programmable 1.4L humidifier
Clip on oscillating fans for circulation
I started by germinating four seeds hoping that all would be viable and that two (at least) would be female, as the person that gave them to me could not tell me if they were purchased as feminized seeds. I soaked for 24 hours, then transferred to peat pots for in- soil germination. Luckily I had a 100% success rate, so I started with four seedlings 14 days ago. I lightly watered daily at first with a spray bottle, paying attention to weight and moisture in the soil. 8 Days later I was able to see the third node sprouting at the top, and had pretty sturdy stems, so I transplanted to my one gallon grow pots and did a full strength feeding according to the Fox farms soil feeding schedule. This made me nervous, as everyone seems to say that with Happy frog you don't need to feed for 3 to 4 weeks, but it was a very small amount of nutrients, so I just followed the schedule and went with 6tsp of Big Bloom, 1tsp of boomerang, 1/2tsp of kangaroots, and 1/2 tsp of holy mackerel, mixed into 1 gallon of pH neutral rainwater. Had to pH up to 6.5, then watered amply, though not to run-off. Plants did not seem to experience any transplant shock so I'm pretty happy with that. 3 days later, water again with rainwater pH to 6.5, this time to run off. Checked PPM and run off and all plants were between 1900 and 2000. Avg 14 day temp is 78*, and RH at 61%. No real significant peaks or valleys to speak of there. Saw a bit of curling on the tips of the serrations early, so raised the light to 26 in and dialed back to about 75% on the dimmer, seems to have done the trick. The only thing I'm noticing right now is some slight curling on the first couple of sets of leaves, I'm thinking may be pH related, or possibly the early feeding. Overall I'm happy with the progress, no stretching, I have tight internodal spacing, and nothing has caught on fire...so far. More to come.
I realize it's a long first post lol, let's call it a 2 in one. I promise to keep them short and sweet and to the point in the future.
Thank you again to everyone that participates in this amazing forum, and I look forward to any and all feedback.
