1st DWC/Hempy Harlequin Joe - Pot of Gold - NYSD - BB - ATF '13

Update time:

It's been a week and it's been a bad week health wise, but I'm still a truckin. I ran out of meds today and don't get paid until the middle of the week, so I did the no-no and trimmed a bit from the girls. I tried to stick to just feeder branches and those that were blocking others or weren't allowing for an even canopy. We just smoked the half gram dried I got off of NYSD and while it wasn't crazy strong, it was effective enough. All said and done, about 10g dried after destemming. With stems, 24g (feeder branches).

I've started cycling some of the bag seed girls into window sills during the day to supplement the limited CFL light I have right now, so we'll see how that helps out. The bagseed "popsicle girl" seems to like it.

One of the seeds I'd been vegging and training into a mainlined plant threw balls after I put her into flower, so I wasn't happy I had a him. But, I liked the growth better than the previous boy, so I tucked this boy into the other bathroom window to get some pollen for breeding. Well, this morning, the growing tips sprouted pistils, so I just got my first hermie. Here's a pic, what do y'all think?

I'm gonna say hermie and the gender confused cannabis plant is gonna get the axe in the next day or so.

Well, since I'm showing off canna-balls, here's the boy I am keeping for breeding, this one is in the other bathroom window, lol:

See why I preferred the growth pattern of the hermie?

Well, here's the more "normal" update pics:

Trying to save the cuttings that got dropped in a modified bubble cloner... I need a 2" drill bit, ugh:

A mini-DWC with the original POG clone that rejected the rockwool and didn't know how to handle the ladybig hempy... I think that one didn't drain well enough... this one was taken and grown beside the Harlequin Jo clone mom in the veg area, I'm not sure, but is that new growth at the top node?

Thankfully I will be getting a better flower tent and some more lighting ordered by the end of the week, so I'm definately moving forward, just slowly, lol.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend out there in 420Mag-ville ;)

your flowering girls are look pretty juicy. I will be good to get more lighting and a tent but then you will have a heat problem.:thedoubletake: I'm sure you will solve that problem just like you have all the rest. When you harvest, I mean when they are ready to harvest, you are going to be a happy man. we all have done the early bud steal to get by. :goodjob:

Thanks Bill... yeah, I agree about the heat issue, but juggling finances may solve that for me. I think I'm going to knock some high powered CFLs into play, I've found some 250 actual watt hydro cfls that are $50USD each and come in both red and blue options. I'm thinking this week, order tent and 2 of those, one blue and one red. Then I start adding in LEDs one at a time. The CFLs I can still use elsewhere, including for our winter veggies, so no loss there. If I remember right, they're 15,000 Lumens each, and they have a $20 flashwing reflector option. I'll inline fan vent the tent out the window in that room. From then on out, LEDs... I'll get one more CFL for veg area and all LEDs going forward. It just means a little slower to build out, but the heat and electric savings will be more than worth it. I almost bit the bullet and bought an HPS to get the light faster, but the heat issues just won't be handleable in that room without an A/C if I use an HPS, so LED and CFL it is.

i dont know bout those giant cfls ive heard they are quite hot,and a fire hazzard, a 400watt hps is not that bad especially if you get a dimmable ballast, the lumens are well worth it, i was keeping a 3x2x4 ft closet cool enough with just a little fart fan from homie d's, i know its hotter here, the hps will give you some solid dense nugs, i found that after i got my 400 my temps went down,vs a bunch of cfls, its all in my first journal ,you can put the ballast outside the grow area and im positive you will get better results with 400 watts hps vs 500watts cfl. they are not as cool as ppl think temp wise , once you go over a couple hundred watts, and hps is more efficent per watt, something to consider and research a bit more, i-power on the bay has some very inexpensive 400 setups, saw one with a batwing for 89$, check out my 1st journal and my revelation after getting my first hps,

I remember the iPower in your journal... Spiffy got it for ya, if I remember, as a surprise. I've thought about it, but I am worried as that room gets stupid hot during the day. If it's 75 outside, that room is in the mid to upper 80s, so I really wasn't sure. I'll see if iPower has any good sales going... part of the decision was heat, part was cost for this month.. I will do some looking though.. I hadn't checked the bay for iPower specifically, just HPS... So am I right, is that a hermy?

oh yeah thats a very confused plant, they are fun to grow (away from the others) just to see what they do, sometimes the bud is pretty good meds, the seed will most likely be more of the same,i had some just like that and i posted pics in my 1st jo. now i read something about them having value in breeding in a dj short article, but im not sure how its used, but i would just let it do its thing for fun, enjoy the bud, show etc. keep any seeds marked and out of any breeding till i can find out how they are used,i know that many of they fire herb from the 60s &70s were mostly hermies those old school landrace equatorial sativas,
yeah i was really surprised at the heat going down after adding 400watts hps but after thinking on it it made sense you go from a bunch of lights & ballasts to just 1 heat source, i had close to 400 watts clf ,but the big difference was in the buds my weight doubled and they were much denser, all win in my book

I've really been going back and forth about it. I'd like to throw the HPS in to max out the tent, it will be 4x4 and a single HPS would handle it just fine, but I was/am kinda worried about the heat and yeah, I agree, the heat increases with each CFL added, which was why I was thinking 2 250w CFLs, as then they'd only have 2 ballasts instead of 12 - 20 with small CFLs, but I've never had access to a CFL above 60-80w, so I had no clue if the ballasts would be proportionally warmer or not. I'll still go LED eventually, but that's going to take time. I'm looking at a couple of iPower kits now and if I can, I will likely do one of those so the tent is maxed at the start and continue the LED light plan from there. Eventually move the HPS to my veggies or if I can swing it over the winter, to the greenhouse.

Not sure what to do with the hermie. My landlady doesn't want cannabis outside because of her teenage daughter, which I'm mostly cool with, but that limits what I can do with the gender confused plant. The window it's in now is connected to the room where the window lickers hang out during the day, so I can't really keep it there... I'm guessing I'll be checking out it's root development tomorrow, although, there is one place s/he might be able to live outside... I'll have to look tomorrow and see for sure, it's real iffy.

i have a 68watt cfl supposed to be like equal to 300watt incandescent,it cranks out a ton of heat as much as 6-8 24watt cfls, its redonkulously big and heavy, never use it its to heavy for a standard size reflector, ,lol i use 2 600s in a 4x4 but i have aircooled reflectors and a 6 inch 364cfm inline fan works great for both inline hoods, the lumen output on a 400 is good and if you do a scrog ive seen doodes get well over a gram per watt on a well maintained screen & hydro, and hps does not have to be right on top of the plants, what it came down to me was i realized that hps is tried & true & theres a reason why all the pros use em, they work! & the new digital ballasts are nice and more efficeient than magnetic, i think it will work good for you and you'll be glad you took the plunge!:thumb:

Most likely, lol... just a matter of getting it shipped, I haven't updated my mailing address through paypal, lol... It seems some sellers will only ship to that address and I don't need it shipped to FL when I'm WA, lol. The other sellers don't say anything about that, so hopefully I'll have it within a week or so from tomorrow... it'd be nice to move the current girls into a new tent under HPS to finish out when they get their final defol in a week or so.

ROFL, you know, I don't know if I need to medicate more cause it took me about 5 seconds to translate that. LOL, I haven't checked them as of yet, no... I went with the bay of fleas to check previously... I will check them out before hand though. And since I have (maybe had now, not sure) prime, that can often help with shipping, lol.

Sleep well BID... I know the feeling, don't think I've managed more than 2 - 3 hours sleep per night average over the last couple weeks. Need some much stronger indica around here, lol.

I can totally understand that and you were right, $30 less there than the bay and free shipping since I still have Prime for another 2 months, lol. I'm pretty sure what I'm going to order Wed, but will keep looking for best deals I can get, but right now, tent/fan/hps and a few replacement nutes I think. I'm hoping the girls flowering now will show some benefit from finishing under HPS for the last couple weeks as well :)

The CFL worklights I use are T5 , I find they are extremely versatile in limited space as well. 45 watt each produce 3000 lumen and cover 1.5 square feet respectively at 1.5 feet above the canopy. I can start 70 plants from seed using one for about 2 weeks.

WildRosebud, are they more droplight style or more fluro tube style? I haven't seen any worklight / drop / prop ones around here in the right color spectrums unless I want to buy a fluro style fixture over a CFL one... I did find a 250 actual watt hydro cfl with reflector ($50 bulb / $72 with reflector) that I'm thinking about as well... though more for veg and literal indoor veggies over the winter.

A fine Weednesday to you rune:) that is sweet your girls are going to love it! May I recommend that you don't let the light get any closer than 18" from the tops. just a suggestion:)
Well, the tent and HPS are ordered and if the company is on track, will be here friday-ish. I wonder how those girls in flower will feel finishing their last few weeks of life under a 400w HPS ?

if you look at HD web site you can find t5s for about $75 bucks and they will grow some fine lettuce. oh and they are tube style lights:) but they are also High Output bulbs made for growing in veg state but you can also change the K rating with another bulb:)
sorry boss just got high and starting to prattle:) I will stop now and prattle else where.

No problem at all Fish-man... I actually planned on a bit higher than that at first to not fry them, coming from CFL, but yeah, no closer than 18"... thinking to start at 24" and lower a bit daily until I hit 18 or so.

I've noticed those T5s and have debated using them for veg eventually. The price is much better than most Hydro shops and I know I saw some for 40 - 60 as well. I was thinking about sliding a couple tubes under the desk for veg space for larger plants than where I have clones and seedlings since the closet will turn into another flower room over the coming month(s).

Just found out from my mobile dispensary guy that he wants me to take his mother plant today for Dynasty since he has a new strain coming in to grow, so I'll have a mother plant to mother when I get back in a few hours too, lol. My girl loved Dynasty and I enjoyed it during the day, so I'm happy about this.
