300W LED vs. 400W HID Demonstration

re: GrowLEDHydro 300W LED vs. 400W HID Demonstration

im gonna look for the tape when i have some time to go. the only thing that really pops in my head when thinkin about the tape. you just wrap it around the plant right? so the buds dont fall backwards/outwards, right? but what if they are fallin sideways into other buds, does it still support it? i cant see it doin so, but then ive never used.

thanks again mate :thumb:

you're welcome ;)

yep, all I did was just wrap it around the plant at the right height and tension to support the branches.

It only works well if your branches fan out in a fairly symmetrical circle, and since my ladies know I have OCD, that's how they grow ;).

but yeah, it won't work well if you've got branches going in different directions and crossing over other branches. In that situation, it would be better to do it another way and individually support them.

The plants on this grow only needed a little help, so the easy fix worked OK, but if they were really starting to bend over, I would have tied them individually.

Hey SS, Your grow was fantastic!! Hope my baby kushes do as well, but I use cfl's. Cant deal with heat, only growing for hubby.

I don't want to grow taller plants, but I would love to grow taller pure sativa strains if I can keep them short enough using the same technique. I just don't know if it would control their height enough to do so with my limited amount of headroom.

SS,

I am going to give this my best go man. I am going to try anything it takes to keep the sativa's indoor! Under 6ft max conditions.

Ss you could run co2 with your led setup in the tent if the temps stay reasonable.

what would be reasonable?

with that grow setup, I have concerns about decreasing the life expectancy of grow lights, fans, etc., and increasing my risk of a fire.

If not you can still seal the tent with a window ac unit on a thermostat cooling the air inside. Pretty simple to setup, and not overly expensive. I imagine the tent will not get too hot too fast so the ac will not be running too constantly.

I think I'm going to do something like that when I frame in my grow room around my tents. I can't do that with my tents in an open garage, but in a smaller room, a small a/c unit will work fine.

I'm excited about having a greater degree of environmental control, because once you have good genetics, I think that's what it's mostly about.

There is also a way to cure with dry icenif your rh is too high, I can't remember it offhand. But google I'm sure has it.

thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.

Doesn't look like the rain is gonna quit for a while :(

high Tmac12!

thank you!

Nothing wrong about growing with CFL's if they are meeting your husband's needs, and it's cool that you're growing for him.

What strain of kush are you growing?

awesome, got it. thanks mate

The Kush seeds came from Montana, from some meds. That is all I know about them. Hope they are a good strain. Thx SS

Hey Irish what deals can you get for a 300 spectra? Mike gave me a deal on a spectra 120 but now im greedy for more ;)

re: GrowLEDHydro 300W LED vs. 400W HID Demonstration

Thanks for the pm Irish. I can't reply as I am too new here..

Anyways ss have you considered putting your jars into a large bin or closet with a dehumidifier? I have read that even through a sealed jar the rh will match the ambient, not sure how. This could also be of benefit when you open the jars to breath them.

I have the opposite problem here, 20% and under rh.

That's a good idea and I may have to resort to that.

I put all the jars inside a cardboard box and have them open, and that seems to be drawing the moisture off better than in the cabinet where I usually do the curing.

There's no mold and they're getting there. I think they'll be very smokeable and cured enough in 2-3 more days and I'll do dry weights.

I'd like to cure out as much chlorophyll as possible before I do the smoke report.

thanks bro!

Here's my pre-flip LST method:

I do this an hour or two after watering my plants as this makes the stem more flexible and reduces the risk of accidentally snapping it. I was not going to LST this plant, so I didn't transplant it off-center in the pot, but I do when I don't space out on it, because then the plant stays centered better when you bend it over.

Above are the tools and below is our lovely and willing volunteer ;).

This is the first tie, sometimes called the counter-tie because it counters and balances the stress you are going to create with the second tie. This tie always needs to be done first to ensure that the roots don't get ripped out of the medium. This first tie will not usually require any adjustments, so I tie a very secure knot at both the stem and the binder clip. You don't want slack or excess tension on this first tie. Plant should still look the same when you're done tying it.

P1010912.JPG

Now, we'll do the second tie. Cut a longer piece of tape and gently tie it to the top of the plant. I like to tie it maybe 3-4" down from the tip of the plant, where the stem is strong enough to resist the tension without breaking. The knot should be secure, but not so tight that it's squeezing the stem.

The second binder clip goes on the opposite side of the container.

On the second tie, I don't tie a knot on the binder clip because I sometimes have to pull the main cola down more as it grows, so I just use the clip to secure the tape against the side of the container. When I bend the plant over, I'm feeling for how much tension and stress I'm putting on the stem so I don't snap it. Unless the stem is really flexible, I don't bend them all the way over at once, but rather make 2-3 adjustments over a couple days.

Once the plant recovers and starts to produce new shoots and bush out, which takes from 2-4 days or so, I flip them to 12/12.

Any other tops that start growing taller than you want the canopy should also get the same treatment with additional ties, but most of the time, my experience has been that if you keep the main cola down, the plants distribute their energy fairly evenly among all the rest of the tops and the canopy levels itself pretty well.

dat's it ;)
