cold veg

Has anybody on here placed young plants outside in temps of 8 degrees C? Google says that's 46f. There's plenty of info on flowering plants in the cold, but I'm curious about early veg, like 3 or 4 nodes in. My neighbour already put some of his in the ground and I'm wondering how they'll do...
