See the Blumat in action. It paid off when I was ill for a few days and in bad. The smaller plants and seed blocks dried up and were rescued. The turn of a knob makes the blumat give more or less water when dry!
I have the houseplant blumats that run a hose to a water bottle and use the gravity feed, but here the moisture is soaked from the ceramic cones. The tropf system can run deeper, set how much water and how far the water drops from the sensor. The individual one only have the small area near the cone wet. They failed to work more than not. I have 20 of them! The Tropf system can be extended as far and as many from the reservoir, which can be as large as you want./ I'll buy another for outside! They can run to the spicket.
This system uses larger hose lines than either EU or US normal drip systems for outside. Anything could be rigged with the right parts, if need be.
I still hand water to keep with the water water fert system. I imagine it works also for soil-less hydroponics and nutes in the reservoir. For vacations, I'd trust this over telling and hiring someone else! :-)
