learning as I go

I have learned so much in the last 5 months. For years I have used marijuana and never once had I asked where and how? Sure I get the concept plant a seed raise a tree. Now I want to grow first hand. I know how it got here and where it came from. At least those answers will be at a closer when I have completed my first run at this.
Reading, reading and more reading question to answers, answers that in return lead to more questioning. Im the type of person that if there is a science behind something I want to know it. To me breaking down a question for example as to either soil or hydro. I chose soil. Why? Because it works. I know that there are major differences between the two however I have not looked into hydro as of yet. After researching what type of lighting I want to go with all the different options, costs and variables I had to take into consideration as well as just learning about how lights work and the different effects on a plant light has. After that chapter of my journey I needed a easy way out on that one. I chose soil I am not questioning that choice just yet. my brain hurts lol plus I got my light 2 days ago and my setup is almost complete im ready to get started.
After I think what took me the better part of my time was learning about lighting. I chose to grow in a 2x2x5 tent that wedges very tightly into a closet. The sides and back of the tent are so close to the wall that the vents the tent provides wont be able to function correctly. So my hid options I ruled out just because of heat alone. So lighting with no heat. That was my first delima. I was however very excited to start my research. Cfls are neat but I have spent many years under flourescent lighting working in a clean room. I felt trapped because it was work. lol so by association I ruled them out. Although I have read a good amount about all the options, leds seem to interest me the most. I thought even though I wouldn't be using m.h or hids or cfls it was still important to investigate into it. I have found when reading on subject matters that the author may not be specific to how their setup is ... well setup. So being able to identify the different terminology helps paint a picture. for example. When I started learning about lighting I would see the term "hood"show up. Do I need a hood for leds? Well no. But since taking the time to read about all the options I can associate hood to a hid setup and now the picture is clear. Lol I started reading a article about a subject that is directly related to hydro i did not know this at the time and im shooting for soil growth. So I had to read a little into hydro just to make sure. Was it a waste of my time absolutely not. Now I know lol
So im off track here.
Ive got a 2x2x5 tent with a marsII400 led. Wow seeing this light in person and being able to see it work is amazing.
Thank you to bid for taking the time to read and answer my questions I hope to pay the favor foward someday.
This will definitely help solve the heating problem. However I wanted to test run my light. No im lying I just wanted to turn it on. But after connecting a hyrgo thermometer and leaving the tent closed and the light on for 13 hours the tent read only 67 degrees f. Hmmm. Its possible its not reading right or I hung the thermastat sensor wrong but I need more heat.
Im ready to start learning about cloning and actually get some hands on practice I am excited and cant wait to get started. I also have to get a filter setup but im not to concerned with that yet. This has taken me forever but im glad I took the time to really look into all my options and learn as well. I am still trying to figure out how to attach photos. Sry ill get the hang of this someday. Lol

I enjoyed reading your blog. My hubby and I are into our 3rd grow, and it's a consistent learning process. Hubby is doing the cloning thing. That's a whole new set of lessons. I'll get with the program on those, eventually. For now, tendin' to the 'girls' in flower keeps us both on our toes. :MoreNutes:
I was going to suggest a possible low cost, effective heat source for you. Try running a (portable) low watt tungsten bulb under a terracotta pot (with a terracotta pot base). Turn the pot upside down over the base. My dad employed that method of heating to keep his pixie-bob cats warm, in his several different "houses." Talk about toasty! You could actually put it on a timer, now that I think about it, and, the terracotta cools slowly. Make sense? At any rate, keep going forward! Once you get started with the first "baby," you will be hooked....like a proud new parent. :yahoo: :goodluck:

Thnx agreenpassion, I get carried away when writing I suppose lol. I will deffinately look into the terracotta and low watt tungsten bulb method. At this point I can only reach 67 degrees in the tent and thats with out a filter yet drawing air out. Im sure this summer wont be so bad but I only run my house about 65 to save on money so im sure theres some of the problem. I appreciate the tip. I haven't started yet, I have some topics yet im still reading up on but im close. I deffinately need to adress the heat issue soon so ur tip is very helpful and beats my idea. Lol I was thinking of just shoving a heat rock in there. Lol
