Raider, the males are ready to fertilize the female, they will kind of pop open. You can use a paintbrush to selectively pollinate, or you can beat the male about the females ever day for a week or so.
For easy seed harvesting, put something like a tarp underneath the buds when they are drying, or if you have enough giant mason jars, put single colas in to let them dry, collect seeds from bottom.
