Wow!
It's been a while since I've been on this site. I originally asked about making a designer compost. It wasn't possible in the way I anticipated, so like any good " research grower ", I continued until I found a satisfactory solution.
I've since learned that the elements I want to dominate my compost are as simple as increasing and decreasing certain ingredients in the compost to have more or less of certain nutrient levels. In this way I can make a " designer compost ". As all growers should know, more of some things, less of others works well. This is the approach I'm taking with my compost experiment.
I am supplementing my compost with an aerated tea, ( designer made of course ) to feed the microherd in the medium. Since I only feed my grows with teas, this experiment is well within my comfort zone. I am attempting to gain an increase in flavor, color, and aroma. My research led me to 2 articles that I settled on as the ones with the most useful info for my project.
One was at GardenWeb - The Internet's Garden Community, What are the Benefits of Aerated Compost Teas vs. Classic Teas? and PermaCultureScience.org, Compost Tea, unveiling the microscopic secrets of connoisseur growers. As I previously stated, I only feed with teas. I also spray with teas regularly to fight any leaf born problems as well as for other reasons.
The tea mixes I will be experimenting with will be bacterial- during veg, fungal- during bloom, bacterial/fungal-for mothers and clones. They are sprayed with bacterial mix until flowering begins.
Experiment will be controlled. At least 3 plants will be grown in designer compost/tea environment. At least 3 plants will be grown in my general recipe compost/tea environment. All other factors being equal in both grows.
Budding a grow at this time. Will be starting this experiment and recording the results here when current grow finishes. (8 weeks at least) Looking for some input from the community. Maybe another grower has some knowledge I can tap into for this project.
Keep it growing Chronicly !!
