This will be my un-official "how to" blog for the Wheel-O'-Juana.
The Wheel-O'-Juana is a rotary grow system similar to the Omega Garden and other rotary grow systems. It utilizes an aspect of plants growth called gravitropism. If you take a plant, place it on its side, the plant will begin to grow away from gravity and the root system towards it. This is not just because of the sun, plants will do this in complete darkness. Studies have shown that this begins to take place within 15 minutes of a plant being placed horizontally. It will take an hour for my wheel to spin one revolution. If you would like to learn more about the science of gravitropism and orbitropism then head on over to this link Google.
Heres a picture one of the most popular rotary garden kits. Its made by Omega Garden and called Volksgarden (german for people's garden!! love it!) It does a perfect job straight out of the box and its great for someone who isnt good with power tools and such.
It really is an amazing unit but Im looking to make something that is more in my price range and can be more easily adapted to other hydroponic styles of gardening.
I plan on writing this as I build, so a parts list will not be completely done until the end of the project. If you would like more information about the inspiration for the Wheel-O'-Juana please head over to This thread.
My goals will be simple for this project;
1. Completely DIY as much as possible (no prefabricated parts)The Wheel-O'-Juana is a rotary grow system similar to the Omega Garden and other rotary grow systems. My goals will be simple for this project;
2. Easy enough that almost anyone could built this.
3. Thus only use materials that are available to most and at a reasonable cost.
4. Make the machine "portable" (can collapse to a much smaller size)
I have many plans drawn to scale and i am confident that the build will go smoothly. the only limiting factor in my build will be funds. most of them will be allocated slowly over the next few weeks. so the project may move slower than i previously anticipated, but has to be done by the time i leave for Colorado on December 20th. I hope to have it done much sooner than that.
As i have stated before, I would thoroughly appreciate any and all advice and/or ideas. Even if you think my plans look stupid and you think it will never ever ever work then feel free to send me a message and tell me why.
I should have my plans with descriptions of each one in the next post.
Ps. Dont forget to subscribe!!!!
