First blog post here at . As I reside in an unenlightened red state, all my stories are hypothetical thought-experiments on my part. Schroedinger's got nuthin' on me!
Raised a good Baptist girl, I am, nevertheless, a child of the 60's, so opening my mind has always been important to me. However, life is difficult (Noble Truth #1) and choices that were little more than compromises have been made, by me, in my life and I often wonder what my life would have been like had I made other choices.
Se la vie. Moving on. Because thoughts that fire together, wire together (see Neuroplasticity).
How does one define being "awake?" The flowering of an individual's life is different for each one of us, so defining that state of being awake is nigh on impossible. Buddha said it is the end of difficulties.
Perfect Balance.

from The Matrix (1999):
Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
What truth?
There is no spoon.
There is no spoon?
Then you'll see that, it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.
We are living in an illusion. However, it is not one created by AI or aliens or anything like that. We, ourselves, create this Matrix. We, ourselves, do not experience the environment, itself. Instead, we experience a Projection of it created by our thoughts.
More to come, it's past this old hippie's bedtime. lol
