If you could put a dollar amount on what it costs to grow a gram for recreational use what would it be? Just a rough guesstimate would satisfy my curiosity.
To my mind something that costs maybe a quid or two to make and folk are paying as much as thirty quid for two grams round here there is lots of scope to create jobs with. I'd bet dairy farmers would cream themselves for a mark up like that on their products!
Although this question was not directed at me I thought I'd share my own knowledge from the recreational industry in WA. Most product on the retail side is purchased between 3-6 a gram depending on a few factors ... the most important of those is that the product speaks for itself but in sales there always comes that level of salesmanship. Those selling in that 3-6 range are people who know their shit. I have worked first hand with multiple 502 producers in consultancy and improving their operations. I would say at least 25% of my business are people who have NO IDEA what they are doing and are simply shooting in the dark. Taking other plant life growing processes and applying it to a plant they've never grown. Ass backwards shit if you ask me. The majority of successful grows I've worked with are bouncing between 75 cents to around $1.60 per gram. All determined by genetics, medium and the types of lights being used. The big money is in the processing. The mark up on infused edibles is insane.
To share a tad bit a bout sexing a plant as early as possible. I top and train my plants pretty aggressively so if you do this method at all then it will work a dream for you. When a plant is approximately 8-10 inches in height is when I chose to top. If I am growing regular seeds and have to determine sex, I take that cut and put into rockwool/rapid rooter, mist and cover in a box or whatever you can. Place in my flower room and wait about 5 days, misting every day and you'll know whether you have female/male. That way you can move that bastard out of your veg space and put a wee philly in there instead
