Tead, yes I will try washing and bleaching a batch of vermiculite. I'll test the ppm of the rinse water too. Was in a hurry...
Like I mentioned already, I've seen some weird things happen with rootballs looking trapped in the cloth cover of the peat pellets. I'm giving them another chance though, and if I have problems I will think of modifications or maybe make my own peat pellets or something.
