I started growing for me and my friends in 2011 and after 3 cycles of producing ok results, I started to encounter my first spider mites. Within the next 3 cycles I was standing in front of what felt like ruins of month of hard work.
I tried EVERYTHING I heard of, read about, got told by friends - all the home remedies, all the natural products, all the commercial products (some of them are very poisonous)...nothing worked. It ended up with the plants OVERNIGHT completely covered in webs.
By chance I heard about a product BASF makes against spider mites, called FORBID 4F. Now, normally, I hear the name BASF chemicals and dont give it another look.
But I was at the end of my rope; the prospect to pay $300 for 8 oz of a bottle of "poison" was not appealing. However after some research I bit the bullet and ordered a bottle of this milky white non-offensive smelling tinkture.
I sprayed one application in the evening and couldnt wait till the next morning to see all the spider mites dead. Well, they werent dead, they were still on the stakes, the plants, the lights, but wait...they werent moving like they used to, they were...dying. Within 1 WEEK all the spider mites had become empty hulls and I have not seen another spider mite since the first series of applications 9 month ago! Not one. I used 1 ounce (!!!) to spray 10 Gallons of mixture, sprayed the walls, the plants in 3 rooms, the lights, the drying room, pretty much every corner in the house. NO MORE MITES !!! Now my medicine is first grade and I dont have to use bud repellents any longer, except for the occasional gnats.
I found out that the product called FORBID 4F from BASF is actually not a topical poison, but a desiccant that sprays on like water, is tasteless and odor free (very slight sweet smell) and has no effect on humans whatsoever. I was so desperate that I sprayed the flowers as well which were to be harvested in a weeks time - there was no negative side effect (in terms of color or taste) to the end product. And since it is not a topical poison, only having an effect on spider mites and white flies by literally drying them out, I am confident to use this product anytime, anywhere. One more thing: I had about 5000 ladybugs in the rooms (which didnt do diddley). After the first and second initial application, they were just as happy as before (just not eating mites - I found them all later outdoors loving the mites on the hops plants), meaning they were not in the least affected by the spray.
My advice: get some friends together and buy one bottle, split it; you wont need 8 ounces in probably 10 years. Buying it in smaller quantities is simply too expensive. I already supplied two ounces to some friends in dire need and they have reported the same results.
