pruning too soon?

One of my friends advised me to prune my plant of a few middle fan leaves on my plant, its still growing but i was just wondering will these now cut stems regrow? or as my friend told me will produce more bud? new sets of leaves have grown but im just wondering could it have done any damage and the main question for this is how long will it take for whatever will grow on there take to show? The tip of the cut stems are just hard and a little brown, kind of concerned about that, thanks for any feedback at all.
