Pruning the giant shade leaves

I just started my girls in the flowering stage last night. I've been pruning here and there during their veg phase for shaping and to keep light on all the tips of the branches to get them ready for this point as I don't want to prune while they are in the flowering stage. ( I'm growing 6 plants in a 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 foot space).

Have I been wrong for clipping off shade leaves or is it best I did for my situation? I'd say I only clipped off maybe 75% of leaf off each plant. They seem very healthy throughout the whole process so I guess I'm worried about them turning hermie on me from the pruning.

Good question..First off this is what works for me.I find that clipping shade leaf's does help with growth just be sure not to take to many at one time. Some strains hermie out real easy the best thing to do is go slow and I also found out that the later into flowering the more I can clip.I can tell you from experience that Early pearl does not like to be clipped really at all.

Thanks man. That's what I thought. I'll keep doing what I'm doing. But also keeping in mind for the future that some strain do not like to be clipped. I'm gonna be keeping a close eye on these for the 1st couple weekske sure I don't see any hermies appear.

HI BUD:) I must say trim back is great.. But try this and you will increase your yield big time. You should Trim all bottom leaves and branches at least 6 inches on bottom of plant at the 2 week stage of flower.NO EARLIER AND NO LATER. Never trim leaves in Veg as they are what stores your nitrogen for growth:) The reason you trim at 2 weeks into flower is because that is when they are done taking up most nitrogen. And by taking that all off to the 6 inch mark will increase size and waight at top of plant we promise. You should also try feeding veg food in your first 2 weeks of flower for better growth and closer nodes. This will increase your yields dramaticily. These are all great tips and we hope you consider them:) we are here to help you. and love to see big results. cheers friend

Thanks for the advice brutha. I will surely keep this in mind for my next grow. I had already trimmed the lower branches about a few weeks ago at the advice of a friend. I'll take notes of the difference in both outcomes.

I dont think one should ever trim off more than 50% of leaves at any given time. 75% seems excessive. In addition, I have never heard of anything called a shade leaf. The large leaves are called sun leaves and they are essential to photosynthesis. I supercrop and practice ScrOG techniques, however I am no expert. I do think that while it may be tempting to trim leaves to "allow more light to bud sites," it is better to tuck leaves than cut them. Theyre there for a reason. Of course, sometimes one must balance airflow/ventilation with refraining from pruning leaves.
