I can't remember where I recently read a newspaper article commenting on a recent Colorado television station's "cross section" of MJ users at a Colorado dispensary.
The TV crew focused on the young people with the long disheveled hair, outrageous T shirts, and even one kid that stated for the camera that he had driven from Indiana just so he could get high legally. There was absolutely no showing the clean cut middle aged people that were buying, nor the local business people--including two well known lawyers.
I live in Oregon where you have to buy a permit for $200 dollars, pay certain doctors $150 - $200
to write you a prescription. Now there is a movement for cities to bar dispensaries. This is going on locally with full newspaper support. Nobody is interested in knowing about the helpful benefits of MJ the local paper is also so one-sided it is almost humorous
Hey Bluefly43, how ya doin?
Yeah, I've read several articles about how the news focuses on the "hippies" in the crowd. I think they feel it will get the most emotional response out of the viewers, unlike looking at a biz exec. or housewife type of person. Emotional responses is what keeps the ratings. LOL
It is also, a shame to say it, the choice of the news reporter. Whatever their feeling is about the subject is how they will direct their reporting. Get a reporter who is Pro-Legalization and wants the image to change...and they will choose an interviewee that represents that change.
Dispensaries have been taken down in our state too. And we cannot make or offer medibles/edibles to our patients because it's against the law. LOL
What DOES NOT help the dispensaries issue is people such as high profile dispensary cases in other states where the owners got just plain greedy and went well beyond what the whole concept of dispensaries is supposed to be about. In our state they were taken down because there were over 20 of the dispensaries located within walking distance of grade schools and rehab centers. They need to be smarter about WHERE the dispensary is located.
It's a battle......
thanks for you thoughts!
