OK so, heres the thing about BHO. YOUR EVAPORATING BUTANE INTO THE ATMOSPHERE!!!!!!!!! do not be a idiot and light up a cigarette while you are heat purging a extraction. DO NOT LET YOUR ROOM MATE light up a cigarette while your are extracting, or else you may fuck your whole fung shwey up. It is advised to do this outside but after I have had the great socal dust fly into my extraction I now do it indoors with multiple fans and open windows. Advise everyone you live with as to wtf is going on and you will be fine. Electric stove top or induction burner is safe for use IMO.

Seriously read up on the properties of butane before you work with it. Be smart.

And um... I am in no way responsible for your fuck ups/injuries if it all goes wrong for you. this is a stoners 10 minute guide to BHO. It works, covers the basic idea but be safe you damn stoners.
Having said that.... I am responsible for you making some killer shatter you didn't have to pay $70/gram for and I definitely feel it deserves a freaking forum member of the month award if such a thing exists.

1 pot on low heat with water in it steaming.


Buy the Mean Skreenz, Coffee filters are a joke and only for the broke. I bought 1 pack of 3 screens 3 months ago, safe to say u get multiple uses with 0 blow outs.
so heres the deal, Chop ur weed up to small pieces, I don't coffee grind or break it up any where near that far. I feel the entire point is to extract the resin heads etc... not break them apart grinding the flowers up. So 1/4inch chunks seems good to me. Immediately wrap your container and throw it in the freezer. Nothing less than 2 hours, I usually get a minimum 4 hour freeze on my flowers, overnight being optimal.
Get a regular pot and fill it halfway with water. Bring it to 110 degrees if you don't have one you will need a thermometer.(#2 on my ELECTRIC STOVE!@ NO FLAMES!), which we all know after reading about butane gas is the temperature at which liquid butane boils Now place the Large Pyrex on top of your gently steaming pot. Now add water to your large Pyrex, 1/3 of the way full.

So what you have created is a gentle steam that is heating a water bath. You will then set the medium sized Pyrex inside the warm water bath you made using the large Pyrex. This is where we will HEAT PURGE our extraction to the point it is safe to consume and it makes a fire ass shatter when cooled.

Ok so now fill your glass extractor, DO NOT pack it to tight or else your butane will not correctly extract lol

Ok, now your extractor is full. Cover the wide end of the extractor with the Mean Skreen, Use one of the plastic zip ties to secure the screen to the extractor. once your screen is on and secured, you are now ready to Blast that ish!

It is important to hold the extractor upright to assure the butane contacts all of the flower material, once the butane blows out of the bottom of the extractor I tilt it slightly and slowly roll it. This way I make sure I get a good flow over all of the plant material.

After doing 3 runs, the liquid butane has pooled and is actually slightly frozen on the skirts of the Pyrex. Gently set your butane filled Pyrex dish inside of the large water filled Pyrex. This is going to raise the temperature and start to evaporate the butane from the essential oils... You will leave the extract in the water bath for up to 12 hours. I found that a 4 hour purge was the same as a 12 in these small batches. My theory behind this is.... It is such a thin layer of oil that it will heat purge out in a few hours, My magic number is 4.
The guys doing huge extractions are having QTs of oils they need to purge and that's where those vacuum ovens come in but for the home grower like ourselves extracting several grams of oil at a time we can get the same quality using simpler methods.

I'm going to elaborate on how thin of a layer of oil we have on our dish, Maybe at it's thickest 1mm? remember butane evaporates @ 110, If we have a 1mm layer of oil being held at or above 110 for 4+ hours theres no way a toxic amount of butane can be left.

We have all had a dab before of something not so great and saw a pop or a micro meteor go flying off the dabber. That was some butane left in the resin that just ignited. I DO NOT have this happen with any of the shatter I have run. Which tells me that I have properly HEAT PURGED my essential oils and am now free to get high as f@c#

DO NOT EXCEED 130 DEGREES! or it might change the terp profile.

Back to what we were doing, Start evaporating the butane. It will start as a small slow bubble on the edges of the disha nd quickly become a violent boil of tiny bubbles. This is definitely a point when you don't want a open flame any where close. Allow the butane to evaporate and settle. As it evaporate the bubbles will be come sorta taffy like. It awesome I know..... Just let it keep going for at least 4 hours then scrape is onto your non stick pad. I am currently still purging so I will post the photos up to where I am at. Probably go to sleep and scrape in the morning.
