WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO USE CBD?

by Johnny AppleCBD October 12, 2016

One of the most difficult obstacles to overcome for those who are new to the wonderful world of CBD is that of which product to choose. With so many products now readily available, from balms to tinctures to oils to isolate, this decision can be very intimidating simply because they don’t know what will work best for them. The thing about CBD is that it works differently for everyone. Some people get the maximum benefit from vaping or mixing with flowers to smoke, while others swear by their topicals and tinctures. The fact of the matter is that everyone is different, and we don’t know what works best for us until we conduct a little bit of personal trial and error. Unfortunately, because CBD products can be a little on the pricey side, this type of personal research could potentially cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars, and lets be honest, not everyone is willing or able to make that kind of commitment for a solution that may not be right for them. This is what makes CBD crystalline isolate is so great. Isolates are by far the most versatile CBD product available because they can be utilized in so many different ways. Today we will be going over the basic methods of using CBD isolate efficiently with a relatively small amount for each method, thus allowing the patient to find the most affective method for him or her without breaking the bank.

Vaping / smoking / dabbing:

This is the most popular method of CBD intake, presumably for its high bioavailabilty and immediate effects as well as the great taste when infused with terpenes. This method however is not for everyone. Because either a personal herbal vaporizer or dab rig is needed, typically the people who go this route already know who they are and have experience in vaping / dabbing. For users who do not vape / dab, we aren’t saying this is not the method for you, we just recommend starting with small doses (< .05 grams). In terms of what equipment works best, we recommend the Pulsar APX, Hand-E nail, The Mighty, The PAX 3, DAVINCI IQ, or a Boost or something similar. Keep in mind that when CBD heats up it turns into a liquid, which can be an issue for some vaporizers. If you’d like to combust your CBD but don’t want to invest in any new gear, you can also be add it to you favorite smoking blend for a very similar immediate and efficient effect.

Some patients also like to add our crystalline to their favorite e-juices or vaping liquids, however this is sort of a tricky thing to get down. Mixing with e-liquid is okay but we recommend first dissolving your crystals in pure PG before introducing the isolate to a high VG blend. The crystalline is not water-soluble and therefore does not dissolve into VG, and the introduction of VG to the CBD solution can promote re-crystallization, which can clog up tanks. The general rule of thumb is the more CBD you use the greater the chance re-crystallization will occur. If you are mixing your CBD with an e-liquid, we recommend using an RDA (re-buildable drip atomizer) so you can drip it directly onto coils to avoid clogging and potentially ruining your tank or RTA. If this is something you want to try, proceed with caution!

Oil tinctures and topicals:

The second most popular method of CBD medication is making oils for sublingual or topical use. CBD crystalline is oil-soluble, meaning it will fully dissolve in oils. This is great for patients because it gives great versatility as to how their CBD can be utilized. You can dissolve it with a nice olive oil and use it on food. You can add it to coconut or MCT oil and drip it under your tongue. You can add it to hempseed oil and rub it directly onto the skin to treat pain at the source. The choice is up to the patient. We recommend starting with a relatively low dose (around 100mg or .1 grams) added to around 10ml of the oil of your choice. Give it about an hour or so to fully dissolve. This process can be sped up by gently heating your oil to around 150 degrees F but it is not necessary. This will give you 10mg of CBD per 1ml of tincture, allowing the user to accurately measure out doses. If using sublingually, We recommend applying 2 to 3 drops of pre-made tincture under you tongue, seeing how you feel after about an hour and going from there. If using as a topical we recommend applying .5ml and rubbing the oil in until fully absorbed by the skin. CBD can be taken sublingually without creating a tincture, but because of its texture and somewhat bitter flavor this can be unpleasant for some, and we generally recommend creating a tincture with your favorite oil first. To maximize the efficiency and bioavailability of a tincture, we recommend applying it directly under the tongue rather than through ingestion. Although ingesting CBD is possible and technically will work, it greatly reduces bioavailability to about 15% efficiency compared to sublingual absorption and generally takes longer to kick in.

The effects CBD isolate will have when using these methods depends on several factors, including individual body weight, metabolism, and personal diet just to name a few. Simply put, CBD affects everyone differently. If you take CBD using one of these methods and don’t feel anything after an hour or so, don’t be discouraged! Simply slightly increase your dosage and try it again. It’s all about personal trial and error to find what dosage works best for you.

No matter what method works best for you, what’s most important to us is that our customers can utilize the many benefits of CBD in any way that they are most comfortable.
