Discovering the truths behind the industry claims
You know I always kind of knew that there were some companies in the hydro industry whom had bullshit claims. However it never really hit me how many of these businesses could be pulling this stuff off.
Now, I'm not here to give my opinion on the best bulbs out there, nor am I here to slander any companies name. I'm simply posting this blog to share my discoveries and encourage others to do their diligent research, if you're a serious grower.
I've recently done a ton of research regarding LED lights and learned much about horticulture lighting as a whole by searching for LED knowledge. It's a bit intimidating at first, however, once you grasp it all, it makes perfect sense (like everything eh?).
I learned the difference between lumens vs par. What PAR is, how it works, what nanometers are beneficial. I also learned more about the photosynthesis process as a whole.
I've noticed some HID manufacturers are catching on to the fact that us growers are becoming more educated en masse these days, like never before. Partly because the industry is young and growing, although it is also booming with new technologies and the more free information available then ever before.
Now we're starting to see HID bulbs mention PAR, instead of simply boasting about how many lumens their lamps can emit. Let's be honest, really the only thing lumens is is how bright the bulb can get; which to me, is similar to macho men, bragging about their package. Your bulb is bright, although how much of that bright light can my plant use?
Without getting off on too big of a rant (then again I guess that's somewhat what these blogs are for), I have to say I found some HID bulbs I had thought were good, based on their fancy packaging and cool name. Unfortunately when asked for some proof to back-up their 'selling points' I was told they were waiting for that data as well...which to me means if you (the seller) aren't capable of giving these answers, you should wait to sell these products.
My message to my great 420 grow enthusiasts is to truly get your homework done over time, and ask questions. Don't always believe their claims without getting the proof.
Never believe everything you read, never believe everything you hear, and only believe half of what you see.
