Hi everyone and welcome to my first real cannabis grow ever! I will be growing 2 of Attitudes Serious Seeds Kali Mist. My Setup consists of a Stealth grow cabinet that I built, which measures 48”L X 12”W X 42”H. It has 3 compartments, starting with the top left which is my Utility/Cure Room with a 4” Suncourt Inline Exhaust fan rated at 80CFM on the side. The entire system is a passive negative pressure environment.

DIY carbon scrubber to remove the odor.
For lighting I'm using Y Adapters, 10 CFL's (27w 2,000 Lumen each [6,666 Lumens/sq ft.]) 2 slots will be dedicated to 6400 veg CFL’s to help keep a balanced spectrum in the flowering phase. Currently I'm just using a few 6500k 27w cfls to veg.
For Soil I’m using Hampton’s Estate Organic Professional Potting Mix, the Nutritional Values are .25-.10-.10. I decided on 2 gallon pots with my moveable scrog screen 8” above the soil. (Currently debating moving screen down to 6" or 7")

Kali Mist Day 8 - 05/26/13
It's time for another update, the 2 plants are starting to pick up speed in their growth. Their both staying very short (Plant #1 is 1 1/2inch tall. Plant #2 is 2" tall. Both with tight inter node spacing. One thing that caught my attention is it appears like the side branching from the inter nodes started very early, I'm not sure if this is normal however I am very happy that it's branching out so early. Currently I'm watering with plain tap water that has been standing for 3 days to help rid the chemicals from that water. I'll begin fertilization in another week, with 1/4th strength using Miracle Grow 20-20-20 for veg. This is not my ideal choice of fertilizers, but low funds = limited choices. Hope the Miracle Grow isn't too bad though!
Here's a quick recap of whats been going on the past couple days with the girls.

4 new updates on my cabinet setup. First I Upgraded my Fan from a cheap Home depot fan 80CFM duct fan to a S&P 100X 130CFM this puppy has power and back pressure doesn't slow it down much at all, maybe a 15-25 CFM drop. The only downside from my experience with the S&P was attaching a carbon scrubber, every design I tried cut the CFM down to almost nothing. I tried at least 20 different designs to get maximum airflow and only 1 was successful. That was my original cup filter but instead of predrilled holes through the bottom about 25-35 or so. I revamped the design and drilled out the entire bottom and this only cut my CFM by maybe 30 or so and was placed on the inside of the cabinet on the intake side of the S&P. The Third change was my lighting setup, I cut the wood way down to allow for better ventilation, this helped tremendously. Last update is instead of 2 scrog screens, it is only 1 and about 6" longer to help improve yield.
Topped Both plants, Plant #1 at the 5th Internode and Plant #2 at the 4th internode.

I forgot to add that when I topped the 2 plants, I decided to try my hand at cloning. I made the cut with small scissors cut at 180 degree and quickly dipped the cuttings into Rooting Hormone and straight into some peat moss in a mini pot. The clones have rooted, are growing strong, and are being LST for the next 2-3 months to replace the 2 current plants when their finished. The goal is to try to get a semi perpetual grow. In addition to the 2 clones I made a third that went straight into 11 1/2 hr on 12 1/2 off as soon as the roots appeared and is also being LST. This third plant is strictly to get a sample taste of my buds early on.

Kali Mist Day 22 - 06/09/13 Plant #2
Guess I forgot to snap photos of Plant #2
I topped both plants a second time at the two Main Cola's , Plant #1 was cut at the second internode and Plant #2 was cut at the first internode hard to see in the pics. By cutting at the first internode I was able to get a really even canopy going however I lost 2 secondary branches due to topping at the first internode.

Kali Mist Day 25 - 06/12/13 Plant #2
I've been pondering for awhile how to set up some sort of a low drainage system in my cabinet in such a cramped space. The reason for the drainage system is I wont be able to remove the plants from the cabinet with the scrog screen over top when I water and I need to flush my plants 2 weeks prior to harvest. I devised a low cost very simple DIY setup with a drainage potting dish for under a buck and an aquarium air filter hose glued with silicon into the drainage dish, it is then run around the base of the cabinet through the bottom passive intake hole with an air stop valve to prevent water leaking all over my floor and so I don't have to keep sucking the nasty water out every time. The system has been tried and tested, works out great.

I decided to do an experiment to see which plant would fill the screen the quickest. Both plants had the main colas topped twice so far. Plant #1 will remain untouched and Plant #2 will have all secondary branches topped once along with some serious LST to really even out the canopy and allow for better light penetration to all secondary branches.
Kali Mist Day 28 - 06/15/13 Plant #1
Kali Mist Day 28 - 06/15/13 Plant #2
I'm not really sure what happened, but the girls went into over drive and there's been nothing but explosive growth over the last 3 days. No Complaints on my end
Kali Mist Day 31 - 06/18/13 Plant #1
Kali Mist Day 31 - 06/18/13 Plant #2
I decided to go ahead and put the screen inside the cabinet, I'd also like to point out that Plant #2 which was topped significantly more than Plant #1 has a pretty even canopy, more colas and is 3" shorter than plant #1, however it has grown quite a bit slower due to the stress. If I had an HPS light I would most likely LST, but due to CFL poor light penetration I would strongly advise to top more and create as even a canopy as possible.
I most likely wont be posting individual pics of both plants going forward as it's becoming increasingly difficult to take decent pictures in such a cramped space.
Kali Mist Day 33 - 06/20/13
Kali Mist Day 34 - 06/21/13
This last pic is my attempt at promoting more secondary branch growth by tucking the tips under the net.
06-22-13
I would like to inform anyone who plans on purchasing critical Kali Mist that from my observations this plant does not respond well to LST for the purpose of promoting secondary branching. It is incredibly flexible and quick to reposition its main stem or stems towards the light in as little as a few hours. For anyone wishing to obtain multiple tops quickly this strain responds very well to topping.
06-23-13
The branches I topped last night did give me the desired branching I was looking for, however the topped branches ended up stretching 1-3" over night! I found that as a negative effect since I'm extremely limited height wise, the lesson I learned is instead of topping maybe I should have tried super cropping to achieve the same thing and minimize the stretching. In my future grows I will also be lowering my scrog screen from 8" to 5" which is about the height the plant on the left is stacked on top of books. I've read it's difficult to work under the screen at that height but I'm having no problems with it so far.
Room Humidity has been pretty much around 40-50% the last few weeks temperature has been constant at 84F as well since I upgraded my inline fan. PH has never moved from 6.7-7. Fertilizing with miracle grow 20-20-20 every time i water, always used at only 1/4 - 1/2 strength since that stuff scares me lol. Once the first flowers appear I'll be switching to miracle grow cactus plant grow 2-7-7 at full strength.
Kali Mist Veg - Day 36 - 06/23/13
Here she is after tucking all the branches I also left a very open space for a group of tops to emerge through the net, they successfully grew up and through a few days later. some tops on the far left hand side did not.

I put in a second scrubber yesterday, that pulls and exhausts into the cabinet. its helping so far but I'm pretty certain as the odor picks up, its going to start creepin back. I'll most likely order some ona gels just in case as a last resort.
Here's the damage I caused yesterday
Busted this top clean off I don't think I could of gotten her under the screen no matter how hard I tried, was interesting to see 3 tops from a clean cut no FIM.
-
-
This branch is about 1 1/2 ft - 2 ft. It was never topped, there's a few other branches about equal length.
-
-
Tied down these branches, gonna have to turn them around in the opposite direction or something soon.
-
-
These last 2 photos show where both plants branches are diverging in the middle creating a huge mess and smothering the tops. Its hard to see from the photo but there's about 10-15 Full grown tops in the middle. It's incredibly cramped, I couldn't figure out where to put them and was hoping they would stretch a lot in the night to give them more space soon.
-
-
-
At this point I'm just hoping to see flowers asap so I can hopefully stop tucking and let them grow vertically. Want to get started on my next scrog asap so I can do this right. Hopefully I'll have an HPS by then
The first signs of flowers appeared 3 days ago 07-02-13. I flushed out the soil to remove excessive nitrogen in hopes this would slow down the stretching. 2 of my biggest tops snapped while tucking them this morning, I handled them carefully. I decided to stop tucking after today, majority of the tops are 0-2" above the screen.

I wanted to share an exciting tidbit of information with everyone. I snapped 2 tops yesterday, 1 of which appears to be my biggest on the far left of the screen. I panicked and quickly reacted, a million thoughts ran through my head and for some reason I ran to the bathroom grabbed a Q tip, soaked it under water then proceeded to dump sugar all over it. I then ran back to the room where some of the leaves on the top had already wilted. I grabbed a twist tie bent the branch back onto itself where it snapped aboout 90% through, I mean this sucker was hanging by a thread of skin lol. I then took the Q tip caked with sugar water and gently wiped it on the wound. The top had completely wilted down and I thought for sure it was a gonner. When I checked the top this morning it completely recovered 100% and sprung right back up to its natural position! I was extremely surprised to see this and wanted to share this with everyone. No bandages or tape was used. On a side note I think this morning has been the most exciting highlight of my entire marijuana growing experience so far.
I believe the sugar acted as a natural seal for the wound and after it dried was like a hardened bandage that allowed the plant to recover. I don't know if it was the sugar or if cannabis plants are just built like a cocroach and don't want to die lol. I hope someone out there finds this info useful in case an accident ever happens.
I decided to go ahead and defoliate the girls today. I'm only going to take leaves blocking light to tops and cramped areas in and around the screen area. Will post a picture before the defoliation, then another once I finish. Wish me luck.-
Also I circled the branch I used sugar on and where it broke at.

I went straight to 14/10 light schedule via wizhigh recommendation from another grow journal. I'm watering the girls with straight water for a week or so. The last 2 watering cycles had intense dark yellow/orange colored run off, had me worried there might be excessive nutes in the soil. Plant is fine though no burns at all.
The leaves have started growing profusely. I'm guessing in reaction to the high defoliation, currently contemplating whether or not to defoliate daily (only the biggest fan leaves) or wait and defoliate at day 45.-

Hi Fish Cakes, decided to go with your idea on LST. was looking at the canopy and thought up a great idea cutting up some aluminum coat hangers that lock everything into place. I don't like spending too much time around delicate flowers and this thing snaps in place quickly. I'll be able to remove everything quickly at harvest too

Wanted to share a pic of a clone with 3 tops, I accidentally broke this branch off during LST in 12/12.-
Shes exactly 1 month today, vegged under 1 13w 6500k CFL with 24 hour lighting. 24 hour lighting cause I want her roots to stay small, I've read most root growth takes place during lights off. 1 CFL as close as possible to keep her small and tight.

1 month later
69% of my screen has a top coming out of it I had 114 holes in my screen and counted 77 tops 10 of which were lollitops, (yes I made that up ) very small bud site and weak flimsy stem, long internode; over 2" with only 1 bud site at the very top.
Plant #2 (Left hand plant) has 42 tops 4 Small lollipop tops
Plant #1 (Right hand plant) has 35 tops 6 small lollipop tops

So far my experience working with both plants I prefer the scrog screen at 5" as opposed to the 8" height of the other plant (for the time being, I do find it more tricky trying to predict where to place certain branches)
I know its too early to say till harvest but I'm guessing the left plant will outproduce the right which was my guess from about week 3 of veg.
I can say with certainty for SS Kali Mist that I prefer aggressively topping with LST, I recently discovered I'm not a fan of super cropping and did not notice any improved rate of growth. The Clone has been topped nearly 10x and will get topped a lot more in the following weeks to prepare her for another round of scrogging

Update
There doesn't appear to be much growth going on (very disappointing) the only thing she appears to be doing is producing thc crystals everywhere. health is pretty much the same and bottom leaves continue to yellow from nitrogen loss. My clone is 1 day behind my 2 girls and shes been packing on weight daily all parameters are in check and lush green leaves , I wonder if my 2 girls aren't producing much due to the miracle grow and possible deficiencies?
07-31-13
I performed a flush on 07-31-13 to eliminate any remaining miracle grow from the soil. The new nutes I'll be using going forward is Maxbloom 5-15-14 its a very balanced fertilizer with all macro and micro nutrients. In addition to the flush I fertilized with Maxibloom 1 teaspoon per gallon and a half gallon for each plant to fix any possible nute defencies.

For the cannabis plants DE was applied by brushing a layer around the top of the soil.

The Dracaena fragrans was hit the hardest with pests when we first got it few months back. it had spider mites, mealy bugs, and apparently the fungus gnats which I recently learned can be harmful to the roots of plants. I took care of the spider mites and mealy bugs with straight isopropyl alcohol by spraying the entire top layer of soil with it and generously applying alcohol to the leaves with a rag. This continued for a few weeks and I wiped everything out but left the fungus gnats thinking they were harmless.
Last night I stirred up the upper half of the top soil and applied 8oz of DE and mixed it throughout the entire soil to kill all the immature adults, adults, and larvae. This afternoon I poured a quarter gallon water through followed by 1 gallon of the hydrogen peroxide solution to try and kill off the larvae, hydrogen peroxide doesnt bother the immature adults at all. The soils crap so it dried pretty quick and I decided to mix in the DE again for more killing power. I'll report what I find later in the day.
For anyone who buys plants from Home Depot, my advice is don't. Their plants may look nice but their plants are infested with pests and problems.
-
Diluted Hydrogen Peroxide Solution was applied to all the housplants and to the vegging cannabis plants to see how they react to it first within a 24 hour period. Most of the houseplants cheap soil didnt fizz and bubble like the high quality soil in the cannabis plants

08-1-13 Day 32
I decided to try bassmasters high defoliation technique with my current Kali Clone. I tested high defoliation and stripped her down to the branches at week 3 with another clone to see the difference, I noticed growth slowed tremendously or almost stopped completely for nearly 4-7 days.-
I decided the technique wasn't worth it. when I took a closer look at the defoliated clone I noticed how even the secondary growth was and the thicker stems, being that my main clone is gonna be vegging for so long I decided this is a positive thing for me and will be testing the technique correctly at week 4 of veg.

She's approximately 1 month old since I cloned her, I do not know when roots appeared.
She has been topped 21 times and has well over 40 secondary branches either grown out or growing out currently.
I plan on topping her about 40-60 times before the flip. I'm hoping for over 100 secondary branches.
her canopy is currently 5-6" above the soil at the highest point. My goal is to keep her very even at around 5-6" and train her wide I want the branch structure to look like a Coral
I've been using my best judgement to lollipop any secondary branch I think is gonna grow out thin, weak, with low bud production. I've clipped off about 10 secondary branches so far.

I don't have the exact date the cutting was taken or the exact day the roots first appeared. I do however have the dates the pictures were taken and will try to be as accurate as possible.
I've nicknamed this project Aggressive Rush and named the plant Little Missy. I came up with this name cause I foresee her giving me problems later down the road lol.
So far I've given little missy approximately 2 weeks to develop a solid root structure in peat moss with .005%N with a 16/8 lighting schedule and transplanted once into the final 2gal pot. She's currently on a 11 1/2 On and 12 1/2 Off Lighting schedule which will increase by 30 minutes every 10-14 days for a Final lighting schedule of 10/14.
There will be some extreme LST involved and the Final outcome that I'm hoping to achieve should look a little like this
I did not create this illustration so I gave credit where credit was due

First signs of buds!! Right On!
Up till now the plant has only been watered once since 2gal repot with 20-20-20 Nutes at half strength. RH has been consistent at 40% Temp has fluctuated from 82F-88F.
My Lighting was switched about 9 days ago to 1 55w CFL 2700k rated at 3850 Lumens its 3-4" above the plant
if I'm not mistaken, currently there is a total of 17 tops.
Leaves are tucked and pinned right on the soil to get as much light to side branches as possible. If they show even the slightest sign of mold their gone.
Kali Mist Clone - Day 16 07-01-13
She's stretching an inch a day, more flowers appearing but doesn't appear to be putting on any significant buds. Guessing this is due to 1 CFL, will probably go buy another Y splitter and 55w CFL when I have time.
Kali Mist Clone - Flower Day 4 ....... Total Days - 21 07-05-13
I defoliated a few fan leaves that were blocking light to bud sites. One was twist tied to achieve the same effect. Whoever said Kali mist stretches only 140% lied lol. This chick appears to have stretched over 400% so far.

Here she is showing some skin
The last pic shows what the majority of the tops bud sites look like
Made a few changes, I'm about 3 weeks into 12/12, decided to defoliate the girls, didn't want to risk mold on lower leaves or wasted energy in popcorn bud on lower tops. I took out quite a few tops below 3".
Right now i have a total of 14 tops, I also decided to not follow the illustration since I don't have adequate lighting for it. Right now the focus is as much quality bud as possible in as short a time as possible. If this method ends up producing a high yield, which I don't think it will. It may end up being a good idea using 6" diameter pots that are deep and grow out a SOG LST style for sativa's. we'll see....
I trained the main cola towards the center so it would have the most direct light all the side branches are being trained towards the center as well. I'm being very careful to provide enough space for the tops so they have room to breathe. stay tuned to see the results.

Pic of new LST
I switched straight to 14/10 lighting as opposed to diminishing, as advised by wizhigh, a grower I have a ton of respect for.
The buds have grown to about double the size of the last pictures over the next few days but growth has stalled tremendously in the past few days.
She looks healthy, light penetration is sub par at best so I decided to do a high defoliation in hopes to increase yield. Her buds on average are about 1/3rd the size as her mature counterpart which is a few days behind her.

Before & After Defoliation
I smoked before going into the cabinet this morning and decided to get creative. The idea was to get as much Lumens as possible around the bud sites and internodes in a small confined space 10" sq. from 1 CFL.

update
She packed on a lot of bud weight 2 nights ago during lights off (07-21-13). All 3 of my plants did this on the same night so maybe were done with early flower stage and entering peak flowering stage
Can't wait to see the girls during lights on in an hour. Will keep you posted
She's still stretching, but not much. nutes at 1/4 strength every water period still haven't used full strength on her yet and probably never will.

Good Morning & Good Weed everyone The buds seem to be filling out the most along the stem but not really fattening up very much. I'm sure that'll change soon.

-
This branch is about 1 1/2 ft - 2 ft. It was never topped, there's a few other branches about equal length.
-
Tied down these branches, gonna have to turn them around in the opposite direction or something soon.
-
These last 2 photos show where both plants branches are diverging in the middle creating a huge mess and smothering the tops. Its hard to see from the photo but there's about 10-15 Full grown tops in the middle. It's incredibly cramped, I couldn't figure out where to put them and was hoping they would stretch a lot in the night to give them more space soon.
-
At this point I'm just hoping to see flowers asap so I can hopefully stop tucking and let them grow vertically.

Day I broke the branch
-
1 month later
69% of my screen has a top coming out of it I had 114 holes in my screen and counted 77 tops 10 of which were lollitops, (yes I made that up ) very small bud site and weak flimsy stem, long internode; over 2" with only 1 bud site at the very top.
Plant #2 (Left hand plant) has 42 tops 4 Small lollipop tops
Plant #1 (Right hand plant) has 35 tops 6 small lollipop tops
-
So far my experience working with both plants I prefer the scrog screen at 5" as opposed to the 8" height of the other plant (for the time being, I do find it more tricky trying to predict where to place certain branches)
One of the nicer buds

Kali Mist Flower Day 31 ....... Total Days 74 - 07/31/13
Diluted Hydrogen Peroxide Solution was applied to all the housplants and to the vegging cannabis plants to see how they react to it first within a 24 hour period. Most of the houseplants cheap soil didnt fizz and bubble like the high quality soil in the cannabis plants

Heres a pic of her before applying the solution yesterday, I'll post another once lights come on.
This clone is a tester clone, going in the trash once I'm finished experimenting on it

Kali Mist Final Cured and Jared Product - 09/30/13
A month later... and introducing 3 new ladies all from seed a week after germ, starting from the left we have Bubble Gum, Kali Mist, and Afghan Kush. I'm thinking about a fourth Lemon Kush but not sure yet, this will be in a new journal if I get time these days.
Day I broke the branch 06-28-13

Heres a pic of the bookshelf veg room, ambient temps are 83F bookshelf temp with 3 32w 2000Lumen 6500K CFL is 88.9F
-
heres a pic of what I believe is heat stress and magnesium defeciency - Curled up leaves is heat stress. light green around edges of leaves is MG deficiency.

DJ! Stripper Music Please!
Brace yourselves lol

Grow #2 (Experimental)
Hi guys, I couldn't find a decent or complete journal anywhere on the web with clones straight to flower so I decided to go ahead and make one. I'll be sure to see this through to the very end. At the very least it should be a fun expirement.

Fertilizer: Miracle Grow 20-20-20 after first bud appears switching formulas will post later

Kali Mist Clone - Flower Day 7 ....... Total Days - 24 07-08-13

Pic of Defoliation + Lollipop
Pic of new LST
I switched straight to 14/10 lighting as opposed to diminishing, as advised by wizhigh, a grower I have a ton of respect for.
The buds have grown to about double the size of the last pictures over the next few days but growth has stalled tremendously in the past few days.
She looks healthy, light penetration is sub par at best so I decided to do a high defoliation in hopes to increase yield. Her buds on average are about 1/3rd the size as her mature counterpart which is a few days behind her.
Kali Mist Clone - Flower Day 14 ....... Total Days - 31 07-15-13
Before & After Defoliation
I smoked before going into the cabinet this morning and decided to get creative. The idea was to get as much Lumens as possible around the bud sites and internodes in a small confined space 10" sq. from 1 CFL.
Kali Mist Clone - Flower Day 15 ....... Total Days - 31 07-16-13
I measured the diameter of the plant its within 8" and is 7" tall. If this gives me a few grams dry I'll be happy not sure what to expect.
Kali Mist Clone - Flower Day 17 ....... Total Days - 31 07-18-13
Kali Mist Clone - Flower Day 19 ....... Total Days - 33 07-20-13
Kali Mist Clone - Flower Day 21 ....... Total Days - 35 07-22-13
Good Morning & Good Weed everyone The buds seem to be filling out the most along the stem but not really fattening up very much. I'm sure that'll change soon.
I'll be watering without nutes for next 3-4 watering cycles.

Kali Mist Clone - Flower Day 29 ....... Total Days - 42 07-29-13
Update
I noticed increased thc production yesterday morning, she's getting quite a bit frostier, particularly noticeable on the leaves. Will try to get pics up today
I try to emphasize the frosty leaves in these pics from yesterday.

of All 3 of the girls, this clone right here has the strongest odor and all the sweet scents come only from her buds as of now.
The last 2 pics show her 2 best top branches

The only stress shes undergone is some heat stress and fungus gnats. This Morning 08-12-13 Her leaf tips were burnt from feeding 1 teaspoon of Maxibloom per gallon. I used a half gallon yesterday morning.
