Learning how to roll a joint can be a tricky and troublesome process for a lot of people. Some of us aren't blessed with the skills to craft that perfect spliff naturally. So I just want to offer those people a run through guide on the process of rolling. Most people find a method that works for them and pretty much stick with it forever. This is just my take on the art of rolling.

First of all, you will want to grab all the equipment you're going to need. I'll list some alternatives to any of the equipment because I'm guessing not everyone will have the same tools. First off and clearly most importantly, you'll need rolling papers. You can get all kinds of rolling papers, but if you're starting out, I'd stick with the classic king size papers. Zig Zag, Rizla and Raw are some of the more common brands you can easily get hold of. You will also want some good roach material. Most of the time you just need a flexible piece of card, the rolling paper packets can be used but I personally prefer actual roach books. You can grab these from stores and online head shops. Next you will want to grab yourself a grinder. I wouldn't dream of rolling without a grinder after it being part of my set up for years now. I also use a cradle to hold my paper securely. You can buy these but I just use a playing card folded into an 'M' shape. They make the most of your weed by grinding it into a fine consistency, something you don't get when you sit picking and bicking away at your buds by hand. Having the bud ground finely will also make it a lot easier to roll. I would also recommend a pair of scissors, they help make the perfect roach which I'll describe later. You will also obviously need a lighter or matches. Last but not least you will need your green! and rolling tobacco if you wish.

Step one is all about preparation. Grab your rolling papers and put one in your cradle. Now time for the roach, this is where the scissors come in
handy. Get your roach book and cut a tab out, or simply cut out a rectangle bit of the papers packaging. Cut it to the length you're going to want your roach to be. Now place the cut out roach between your thumb and the back blunt edge of the scissors and run the scissors along the card, the same way you might curl a ribbon on a gift. This gives it the perfect curve so you can roll it up into a cylinder between your fingers. Put your roach into the paper at whatever end you find most comfortable rolling. I personally have the roach on the right hand side because it gives you more maneuverability when trying to shape the joint.

If you used tobacco you want to put a thing layer of that in first. The use the grinder and get that bud as fine as you can, tap it all out onto the first layer of tobacco and then begin to lay on another thin layer of tobacco on top. This will help keep the ratio of bud to tobacco nice and even throughout the joint so it will burn evenly. If you don't use tobacco just throw the bud in the paper by itself it's not a problem.

Now comes the specifics on how to roll a joint you want to begin by gripping the paper with both hands with your index finger and thumb. I like to rest my thumb sideways along with the roach and begin to roll it back and forth, using my hand to do the same thing up and down the whole joint. You want to have your ingredients shaped into a cylinder before you attempt the tuck. You will know when you've rolled it enough because it will feel tight and compact. Now bring the paper to the bottom and line it up with the roach. You want to tuck it tightly like a sleeping bag. It's easier if you put your hands at either end and pull tightly (not so tightly your rip the paper) when it's all lined up just slightly rotate your thumb until the paper has tucked into itself, then simply carry the roll round and lick and seal the paper. But we don't stop there. We've got the joint crafted but it's not finished. Get a loose grip on the spliff and tap it onto a table or hard surface, roach end first. This is just to pack it even tighter so you have a smoother smoke. I also take the scissors and use them to poke it down from the top just to compact all the loose bits at the opening.
And there you have it, after practice you will start to come out with tighter and perfectly shaped rolls.

I'm just offering this method because I'm tired of seeing people with saggy ass rolls. Lot's of people twist their joints together rather than neatly tuck them. I've been rolling this way for years and they smoke so evenly and perfect.

Hope this has helped some people, I appreciate it's harder to understand by reading so I've made a video of me rolling a joint .
