How To CCO

Let's do a step-by-step. I'm assuming you're going to decarb first.

1. Break up the dry plant material (loose, not powdery) and spread it on a baking sheet. Heat at 120 degrees C for 1 hour.

2. Place the plant material, the ethanol, and your jars into the freezer for 24 hours. The more jars you have available to strain into, the faster you can move the process because the wash will drain faster through multiple filters on many jars than it will with lots of material stacked on top of one or two filters. Do you understand what I mean here?

3. The washes are done in 3 minute units. Any longer in the solvent and you begin to pick up undesirables. Cover the plant material with solvent, plus another inch or so, give it a stir. I let it sit for 30 seconds and stir again, then keep that up for three minutes. At three minutes strain.

While I'm straining through the coffee filters I'm letting the solvent sit in the freezer. I want it as cold as I can get it.

4. Repeat the wash two more times. You can combine all three into one large wash or separate the first wash from the others. The first wash is your highest quality pull. Each consecutive pull brings other components into the wash we'd prefer to keep out. I like the idea of using the first wash for the best medicine and using the others for topicals, but cajuncelt assures me he and Tim tested the washes and they weren't appreciably different enough to justify keeping them separate. I decided to listen to his voice of reason and combine the washes.

5. Freeze the finished wash overnight and strain into the rice cooker. You'll be using a rice cooker? I use a simplified method that's demonstrated in my CCO Study Hall. Feel free to check that out. I use that method because I've decarbed my plant material in advance so I won't need to do the final decarb step and I'm working with batches less than two ounces. Using a ceramic-coated non-stick pan makes the process much easier in this circumstance, IMHO.

It's the video in post #49.

Simple Method for Small Batch CCO

6. Evaporate off the solvent. I do this easily with a hot water bath that the pan sits into. The method used in this thread places the wash into a smaller dish and into an oil bath to finish the evaporation and complete the decarb.

7. Harvest the CCO. Most of us draw it up into syringes for storage.

You want to enhance bioavailability, and one of the ways to do that is to use elements of competitive inhibition. You want the enzymes in the liver occupied when the cannabinoids arrive. That's in part what the spoonful of coconut oil about a half hour before the dose does for you. If you can get some apigenin that would be grand. The enzymes that metabolize apigenin are the same ones that metabolize THC, so it helps to distract them with the apigenin.

If you haven't done so it yet, cajuncelt's cancer protocol thread is a must read. It's all about competitive inhibition and increasing bioavailability. He doesn't offer advice there anymore, but there are many members who keep that thread active. It's going to be a valuable resource for your friend and for you. What you're doing here will change your life as well as the child's and his family.

You can supercharge the oil by mixing it with a carrier oil (olive is an excellent choice for almost all cancers excepting liver) and liquid sunflower lecithin. This mix can be placed in capsules and dosed that way. The addition of the carrier oil and lecithin make the oil up to 90% bioavailable, second only to intravenous. If you're interested, and you should be, come see me in the Study Hall and I'll point you to the directions. We have a number of members playing around with dialing this in closer and closer.

There's also a dosing and delivery systems thread you'll find linked in my signature that has loads of valuable information. Every body reacts differently to cannabis and with children in particular you need to start very low and increase slowly and carefully. You can mitigate the effects of the THC by spreading it out into many small doses over the course of the day. The dosing thread has directions on how to do that.

Last, but not least, look up Pediatric Cannabis Therapy. The woman's a cannabis warrior with a wealth of information on pediatrics.

Again, keep asking until you've gotten all the answers you need.
