Don Paul's Take on Pheno's

i guess the only strains with 1 pheno type would be a pure landrace thats not been crossed or had pollen from an outside source,
but im pretty sure pretty much every strain you can buy will have at least 2 pheno types,
sometimes you wont notice and other times the plants will look like 2 different strains,
so lets take an indica/sativa cross at say 40%indica and 60% sativa, well in this case most plants from these seeds would look like the sativa or a high % of the sativa, but 1 in 4 or 5 seeds may end up looking more indica or the end results may have buds that look different from one plant than it does to another.

a good purple strain may produce purple buds 80% of the time but then 20% may produce none purple buds, its why you see many growers saying that their buds or plants dont look the same as someone elses, its because of the pheno type, but then their is another issue, say you buy ak47 from herbies and he got it from greenhouse seeds, then you get ak47 from herbies and he got it from big buddha, even though both are ak47 it dont mean they are going to be exactly the same, they will likely have similar traits if they are true ak47s but their will be slight differences between how they crossed it and what traits they wanted when they back crossed it to make it more stable.

ive grown seeds from herbies and then bought the same strain but from a different breeder and found out that when grown they look nothing like each other, yields where different, but the main traits like the distinct smell of certain strains or size of buds is usually pretty much the same, but 1 breeders strain might take longer to flower and may yield slightly more or slightly less,

their can be many differences, but when you grow from seed you have to expect to have different pheno types coming out, even taking clones never guarantees the end results will be the same,

most say cloning is the perfect way to preserve a strain, well how did the true cheese come around, the true cheese started its life as skunk#1, a uk grower didnt keep a mother of the skunk#1, instead he would grow his skunk then take a clone from it and use that clone to veg his next round of plants with, then when that plant went into flower he would take another clone so he knew or thought he knew he would always have the skunk#1 that he liked,

but one day he noticed the plant had changed, growth was different and the plant stunk a lot worse than it ever did and the smell was different, so after several generations the clone had changed the plant then took on a different pheno type, for some reason the clone turned into something other than skunk1, their was no crossing involved to get the cheese strain, it was done from cloning skunk#1 over many grows, then when the new pheno type grew out and the smell changed someone said it smells like cheese, so thats how it became the cheese, this was also clone only for many years and given away around the uk, so making a true cheese was not easy as it needed to be crossed with something to produce seeds, so it was sometimes crossed with ak47 and back crossed to bring back the cheese pheno type but also having the massive growth of the ak47.

so i guess even clones can change over time, the only way you would keep a true plant around is if you had a mother plant and took clones from that instead of taking clones from the clones, i guess it must be possible for clones to change, maybe the clone was taken to far into flower and a short reveg caused stress and the genetics changed, its not really known why it changed and produced the strain we now call cheese, but the cheese strain is a top strain in the uk and by far one of the strongest smokes you can get, most seed banks list cheese strains but they end up been nothing like the real uk cheese, its a damn stinky strain and cant wait until i take a trip down south and pick up one of the true original cheese strains, ill be getting it clone only from a cheese mother, i know its genuine as i have sampled the buds and their a nice light green colour and super dense and super stinky, so ill get a few clones and try and make some fem seeds so i can then have the true cheese strain.

i tried exodus cheese thinking it would be the cheese strain but the reviews say otherwise, bigbuddha seeds is suppose to of had the true cheese strain and produced true cheese seeds but not tried bugbuddhas yet, might order some in my next order and give it a try, but when i get chance ill had down south and pick up some clones of the true cheese strain and hopefully at some point ill have some cheese seeds
