Don Paul's Take on Pheno's Part 1

ok some info on pheno types,

all seeds you will buy will have at least 2 pheno types, lets take a purple strain, now even if the strain is stable it still has 2 pheno types, some may have more say 3 or 4 pheno types depending on how stable and what its crossed with,

so 2 pheno types for gdp say
1 pheno type is purple colour
2nd pheno type is no purple colour and stinky ass buds,

subcools seeds have 2 pheno types also, this is common with most strains, so pheno type is just basically saying the plant shows 2 different looks or smells or tastes, pheno type is basically how a plant is, so if you grew 1 strain and the one flowered with purple flowers and the other didnt, then that has 2 pheno types the purple pheno and the none purple pheno, but it dont just affect colour, it could be smell, leaf size/type, growth rate, thc content etc etc, so most strains will have 2 pheno types,

with the autos i need to do more testing, i grew about 6 or 7 kc45 under 24-0 and 20-4 and got about 1/4 per plant, they started flowering at week 2 and continued to flower, then i grew kc45's under 12-12 from seed to harvest, plants reached 3 ft and produced 2oz

my thinking is that they flower and reach harvest due to age in light and not age in days, none autos flower due to light cycles so anything above 14/10 will keep them in veg, but autos will flower under 24-0, they tend to flower much quicker under 24-0, so i guess breeders can give the plant the quick finish if its grown under 24-0 as it flowers and harvest early,

also the m2 you mention above is not based on you growing just one plant, its always based on a sea of green grow which could be anything up to 100plants in that m2, m2 is meter squared, so how many plants can you pack into that space, if the auto just grows 1 stem then 40 plus plants could fit into that space, so if it states yield per plant then thats best results using best equipment or outdoors, m2 usually means well always means sog style grow with many plants in a small space usually grown 12-12 from seed to harvest,

right back to my theory of autos
for example lets say an auto takes 240 hours of light to reach harvest
under 24-0 this would take 10 days, so just 10 days of growth
under 12-12 it would take double this time to reach harvest,

plus we know the plants grow during lights off period, in the dark the plant uses stored energy to grow roots, repair damage and in the dark the plant also stretched to find the light again, more stretch means more nodes and more growth means more buds

this is exactly why plants stretch like crazy when you go from 24-0 down to 12-12, the plants are stretching to find the light again, once they are in flower the stretch stops as the plant are used to the 12-12 days,
so an auto i think benefits from a dark period, 12-12 might be a bit drastic but all my autos grown under 20-4 and 24-0 produced very little, ive grown many autos under 24-0 as im told its the best to use, but then i try 12-12 and im blown away with the results, i went from 7g dry to roughtly 60g dry just by using 12-12

so im thinking their must be a sweet spot where autos do best, it could be 18-6 or anything 14-10 upwards, until i do more testing i just dont know, pluts it could depend on strains,

this time round i grew a purple cheese auto under 17-7, now it done very poor, which im not fussed about as im using it for my crossing product again im looking at possibly less than 1/4dry, so all my autos grown under 20-4 and 24-0 of many different strains performed poorly and started flowering at week 2, under 12-12 they took 4 weeks to start flowering, the plants reached 3ft instead of harvesting ay 8 to 10 inches, they also took 3 to 4 weeks longer to reach harvest,

thats just how i found my autos do with the schedules i have tried,

so pheno type is just describing a way the plant grows/looks/smells/tastes/thc level, so a plant with 2 pheno types means that when you grow the seeds you will end up with 1 of the pheno types, so you could be 10 seeds and 6 could turn out purple and 4 could be green and stinky, a stable strain is likely to have 2 pheno types, a less stable strain will likely have more than 2,

most autos will have at least 2 pheno types, to be fair most strains will have 2 pheno types
