First Impressions – his sequel to Cannabis Indica: Volume 1 is an excellent companion to the original and every bit as awe-inspiring to look at. Featuring another 100 strains from 100 different different breeders, it is filled with mouth-watering photography and tantalizing strain descriptions. Similar to the other books in the series, this book holds it’s own on the stunning photography alone, but the real treasure is in discovering the many unique strains and the dedicated breeders that bring them to us. There is also a very well-written chapter on the history of the indica plant, by Mel Thomas.
Digging Deeper
Cannabis Indica: Vol. 2 does an admirable job of representing a diverse portion of the cannabis breeding community. Larger breeders and more popular strains are included, but so are some extremely small breeders and more obscure strains. Strains from all over the world are featured in these pages, along with valuable growing tips and information about their medicinal benefit. A couple of must-see strains included are “Colorado Kool-Aid” by Green Life Medical Center, and “Spirtual Punk” by Samsara Seeds. If these strains are as good as they look and sound… oh my!
Overall, this is a sturdy, well-built strain guide. It feels durable and substantial, and it is filled with gorgeous photos on high-quality paper. Considering the quality of the book and it’s contents, the price seems extremely reasonable at $20.
The introduction by Mel Thomas really helps provide context to the origins of indica as well as it’s many uses and cultivation. Mel also shares a great story of his own journey tracing indica’s origins to India, as he tried to find pure indica buds at the source.
Overall Recommendation
Cannabis Indica: Vol. 2 will appeal to anyone wanting to expand their knowledge of indica history, breeding and some of the more interesting indicas from around the world. Some of the strains may seem obscure, but the book isn’t intended to be a thorough guide to strains easily found in the popular seed-banks.
There are many interesting facts about the indicas represented and the tireless work done by the breeders to bring them to us. Wherever possible, medicinal benefits are included, along with website information for the breeders who created the strain. If you liked the first book in the series, you’ll want to pick up this valuable addition. Cannabis lovers, would-be breeders, bud-porn fanatics and anyone who loves indicas will want to add this gorgeous volume to their collection.
