House Bill 166 is set to be reviewed by a House committee on Monday afternoon.
The legislation looks to legalize and tax medical marijuana.
The bill isn’t the first of its kind to be introduced but has newfound support across the state. Kentucky’s need for new streams of revenue in the wake of budget and pension funding issues has appealed to some of those who previously opposed the bill.
Kentucky native and Medal of Honor recipient, Sergeant Dakota Meyer, is one of many who is lobbying in favor of the bill. He notes the positive effects medical marijuana has on fellow soldiers struggling with PTSD.
