Federal officers say they found more than a ton of marijuana within a shipment of charcoal at the Pharr International Bridge on Wednesday.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say a commercial shipment of charcoal applied for entry into the U.S. from Mexico when it was referred to secondary inspection.
That’s when officers inspected and subsequently found 484 packages of marijuana weighing 2,119 pounds.
The agency estimates the seizure has a street value of $423,725.
Officers seized the drugs. The case remains under federal investigation.
